References:
1)Child Gathering Vol I, The Biggest Crime, Georgios Manoukas, 1961
2)Child Gathering Vol II, Education and Teaching of the kidnapped Greek children, Georgios Manoukas, 1967

Georgios Manoukas was the General Inspector of "Child Gathering" and a former member of KKE (Greek communist Party). He returned in Greece in 1961, under a general amnesty.

The author, Manoukas, examines Comitern intentions behind its policy with respect to the abduction of Greek children and concludes that from the beginning of the Yugoslav government (Tito) falsified the numbers of these children, integrated them into the population of the Federative Republic of Macedonia, and into the new “Macedonian” culture.

I will focus on the parts of his book that mention the connection between Eastern Block Communists and the Slavophone element that fled from Greek Macedonia.

Fact1
Names of the Slavs involved in the Children abductions:

One of the 5 member council during the Children abduction era was the Slavomacedonian Sikavitsas. This person was responsible for the Slavophone children. In the so-called Mountain Government (KKE) were two Slavophone “ministers”. Their names were Metrovsky and Stavro Kocev.
These Slavophones paid many visits to the places where the children were with their objective being the elimination of the Greek language used by the children and their Greek concsiousness. Their lectures were comprised of terms such as "Macedonian autonomy", Greece being a creation of the Big Powers, Slavic Macedonians being the only descendants of the ancients, freedom for "occupied Aegean Macedonia" etc, much like the propaganda the FYROMIANS spread even today.

Fact 2
FYROM propaganda claims all the children were Slavphones. Of course this is a lie. Chapter VII, page 26 mentions the exact numbers and the places that the Greek children were taken to: 18.500 went to Bulgaria (17 camps), Romania (11 camps), Hungary (11 camps), Czechoslovakia (18 camps), Poland (3 camps), East Germany and Albania ( 5 camps), 9.500 went in Yugoslavia (FSR of Macedonia)(15 camps). The numbers and the names of the children are recorded by the Red Cross.

Fact 3
United Nations Resolutions

On November 17, 1948(193), and in November 1949 (288) the UN General assembly passed two resolutions condemning the abduction of the Greek children, demanding their return. These and all subsequent UN resolutions were never honoured. From 1950 to 1952 only 684 children were permitted to return to Greece and only through the pressure of the Red Cross.

By 1963, around 4000 children were repatriated. Of those who did not return many died of illness, some escaped to Germany and others have since returned or have yet to return.

Conclusion
The FYROM government refuses to even discuss the issue, being quite aware of the implications (legal and humanitarian) and in an effort to cover up for the perpetrators of this crime, well known FYROMIAN propagandists and ideaologues.

I recommend that anyone interested in finding out more about this dark period of modern Greek history and the crime perpetrated against the Greek people by the Slavophone Communists - Slav Macedonists reads the book, all 600 pages.

In any further negotiations with FYROM on bilateral relations, the Greek Government will demand justice for the criminals involved and a just compensation for the victims and their families.

I really do not intend to confront you in any way! You are too brainwashed to think with your own head. If you want to know something find yourself real books written by international authors! Or even better, you can consult books written by those children which were expelled from their own houses!!!
Many of those children are still alive like my parents for example. So you can ask me anything you want and I will tell you, instead of believing a book from your propaganda machine!

First, there was no Greek consciousness to eliminate. 90% of those children were speaking Macedonian as their mother language! And no one "forced" them to speak Macedonian instead of Greek. It was their mother language! And the biggest lie is that they were forced to forget Greek language. I have a living proof for that. My mother was only 7 years old when she fled Greece, but in the orphanages in Romania they all learned Greek so my mother still speaks and writes Greek excellent!!! My father was a few years bigger but he also learned Greek as his second language in Romania, and he also speaks it perfectly!!!
The point of learning Greek was that they would have needed it when they would have come back to the places of there forefathers which were given to Greece in 1913!!!
But what a "surprise"!!!!
The "most democratic government" of the world, the so called "Ellinika Democratia", forbid them to even visit the place where they were born FOR 49 years!!!
Half a century they were forbid to visit the place of their birth LIKE THEY WERE SOME KIND OF CRIMINALS OF WORST KIND!!!
And they were just children for god sake. How can 7 and 12 year children be blamed for all the shit that happened in the civil war, and be treated that way???
And now you even have a nerve to "cry" for those children, and blame someone else for your shit with the help of your propaganda machine!!!
But we all know that those are tears of crocodile!!!
You can say what you want but your deeds are speaking for themselves!
And now Greece tries to put the blame to someone else!
It is Greece who will pay for the crimes it committed against those children, and pay huge compensation to all those children who were forbid to even visit their homes, and returning was out of the question!!!

Here you go Aegean Greek,

Innocents' Day

Peace had come to battered, impoverished Greece; the Communist guerrillas had been driven out, perhaps for good. But last week, on Innocents' Day (the Church calendar's anniversary of Herod's Slaughter of the Innocents in Judea), Greece had a day of mourning—for 28,000 children abducted by the bandits and now living on foreign, Communist soil.

A two-gun salute from Mount Lycabettus woke Athenians at dawn. Church bells tolled and flags drooped at half-mast. Newspapers appeared with black-framed front pages. Places of amusement were closed all day, and for half an hour all traffic stopped, streets emptied, doors were closed and blinds drawn.

Queens Do Not Beg. Earnest young Queen Frederika, mother of three, broadcast a poignant message from the royal palace. She begged for the return of the 28,000 children living in exile "as a mother—because queens are not supposed to beg." Added Frederika: "The civilized world has remained silent too long."

The civilized world had made some well-meaning but ineffective protests. UNSCOB (the U.N.'s Special Committee on the Balkans) had verified the mass deportation of Greek children. The U.N. General Assembly had called on Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Rumania for the return of the children. These governments had finally agreed to return any children called for by petition of their parents. Up to last week the Greek Red Cross had forwarded 8,000 petitions, but not one child had been sent back.

Not Even Goodbye. In the palace with Frederika was a group of black-clad peasant women huddled at her side. Kaliroe Gouloumi, from Gorgopotamos, in Epirus, remembered how the Communists took her children: "They were in our village for a year. First they took our animals, then our food, then our children. I had three." Kaliroe wiped her eyes with her black shawl. "They did not even let me say goodbye. They said they were no longer my children but their children."

Said Kleoniki Kiprou from Monopilo Kastoria: "First they hanged the priest, then they cut off his mother's hands, and then they ordered us to follow them. What could we do?" In Albania her eight-year-old girl and five-year-old boy were taken from her and a rifle was thrust into her hands. Tapping the weapon, the rebel capetdnias said: "This is your husband, this your child." Kleoniki was forced into the battle of Vitsi. She deserted and got back to her village—without her children. In Fourka Konitsa, the villagers learned in advance of the guerrillas' abduction plans. They hid the children in ditches. The guerrillas, frustrated, took Sofia Makri and 20 other mothers to the mountains and tortured them. Said Sofia last week: "They hung us from pine trees. They burned our feet with coals. They beat us. When we fainted they revived us with cold water from the spring. Fourteen of us died up there but we did not tell. When the Greek army entered our village they found the dead living, for out of the earth came our children."

Strangely, I completely agree with you that language does not determine who you are!!!
We both speak English as you can see but that does not make us English, American, Australian ....!!!

Another thing that I admit, on contrary to all brainwashed Greeks on this forum, is that although I have almost 60 second cousins in Greece and they all speak my language, some better and some worse, majority of them feel like Greek Macedonians!!! They all accepted that what’s done its done 100 years ago and they are now all loyal citizens of your country! So that is why I do not understand why are you afraid of them! Even if you accept that they have other mother tongue different from Greek they will NEVER turn against you!!!
And about brainwashing, how can you expect all those people who were forbid to just enter Greece for more than half a century, even just to visit their relatives to trust your stories about your "crying" for those children!!!
Beside my parents I know many people who were treated so badly by your government for more than half a century and they are good people who do not want anything from you any more.
Just one simple SORRY will do now, after all this years.
BUT NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
You are to proud, xenophobic, and brainwashed to admit that you, "the smartest and most democratic people in Europe, people who brought civilization and BLA BLA BLA BLA" MADE AN ERROR, A TERRIBLE MISTAKE AND HORRIBLE CRIMES AGAINST THOSE CHILDREN!!!
Even the pope in Rome admitted he was sorry about inquisition and horrible crimes against many smart people in mid century like Nicolas Copernicus and Jordano Bruno!!!

Excellent post file!

The irrefutable point is, despite what any brainwashed FYROMIANS say, that On November 17, 1948(193), and in November 1949 (288) the UN General assembly passed two resolutions condemning the abduction of the Greek children, demanding their return. The UN does not do this lightly and without consideration of the facts!!

This is a still unresolved issue and our government will pursue it with FYROM, rest assured. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (under Bakoyianni) is already lodging the issue at EU and UN levels, with France's full support to start with.

I won't get down to your level, despite your insults and use of emotion to score points. Did you even bother to read the posts above, including the one not posted by me? Do you think that you are the only one with a personal story, just because we don't all go around looking for personal sympathy?

"By 1963, around 4000 children were repatriated. Of those who did not return many died of illness, some escaped to Germany and others have since returned or have yet to return."

Obviously, even if what you say is true, your parents are amongst those that never returned and I don't know for what reasons.......I know that in 1948 the communists (mostly slavophones) carried away into the eastern block countries of the Balkans and Eastern Europe more than 25,000 Greek children aged between three and four. These children were taken forcibly and that is well documented.

Greece made repeated requests in the U.N starting in 1948 for the return of these innocent children. The UN would not have made resolutions for their return without well established factual evidence of forced kidnappings. The communist countries, Yugoslavia amongst them, refused every request. Instead, they exploited these innocent stolen children for years by bringing them up as communists to be used eventually by international Communism against their own country and in Yugoslavia's (and the SFR of Macedonia's case) to spread their irredentist propaganda. Most of these children ofcourse became adults and whilst many subsequently returned from other former communist countries, such as Poland (one is in fact my best friend, raised in this country), there has been some (justifiable) reluctance to accept the descendants of some of these childrenin the case of FYROM....for obvious reasons that don't take a huge leap of faith to appreciate........

My friend is also "living proof" of what happened, as you claim above, and your story is not the universal truth. I don't want to comment further on your particular case....I don't even know how true it is to be honest and have my reservations based on the propaganda coming out of FYROM.

Personally I accept the story endorsed by international bodies such as the United Nations and people that I know personally, including as I mentioned, my closest friend.

And I agree with you that the best judges are the international courts. Greece has nothing to hide and nothing to fear, but the successor countries of the former communist states including and especially FYROM, does.

From early 1948, the Communist authorities deported 25,000-28,000 children across the frontiers from war-stricken zones (of whom only 538 had been repatriated by 1952). The next main wave of abducted children followed the final defeat of the Communist Army in the second half of 1949

but we dont cry..it is truth what happened..
p.s. for the language issue, dont forget that at those times greek or koine as u call it was NOT an international laguage...only greeks used to speak it...
did egyptians speak greek?did persians speak greek? did nordic countries speak greek?
moreover..with ancient macedonians..it was not only the greek language they were speaking..but the lack for their own language..and their "own" culture..that is why they spread the greek culture and not the "macedonian"..coz they were greeks themselves..and they had a greek culture and language and heroes/gods as all greeks..

as for 1940s ...u commited crimies over there..first by supporting hitler (pictures have been poster all over this forum the past days)deporting jewish...when greeks were fighting for them (jewish journals post that) who promised u one country and then by supporting commies..during the greek civil war.

what is not true in what i write...

The Greek Orthodox Church also protested against the communist child abductions and the Greek Archibishop and all Orthodox patriatchs demanded that the children be returned to their families.

Pope Pius said.

'We are mourning because in Christian Europe, hundreds of children were violently taken from their mothers, from their parents and from their schools,to be educated,or to say better ,brainwashed from foreign teachers, acting on orders of the blasphemous abductors''

Greek Cypriot Archibishop Makarios B also made a speech, hoping that the civilized world would help the Greek children return to their homes and family.

April 19th, 1950

[Released April 19, 1950. Dated April 18, 1950]

My dear Mr. Speaker:

I fully share the concern of the House of Representatives for the thousands of children removed from Greece to eastern Europe by the communist guerrilla forces, and I welcome the adoption of House Resolution 514 of March 22, 1950, calling for the speedy return of these children to their homes and homeland.

The rights of children and parents to share the protection, comradeship and beneficent influence of a family home are fundamental and have been implicitly recognized, in the case of the Greek children, in two unanimous resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly. It is morally inadmissible that political considerations or technical difficulties should be allowed to stand in the way of the reunion of these children with their parents.

The Executive Branch of the Government has been persistent in its endeavors to secure effective compliance with the United Nations resolutions in this case. These efforts will not be relaxed until the Greek children are back in their homes.
Very sincerely yours,

HARRY S. TRUMAN

[Honorable Sam Rayburn, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Washington, D.C.]

Note: The text of House Resolution 514 is as follows: "Resolved, That the House of Representatives expresses its profound concern for the thousands of Greek children removed or carried off into countries of eastern Europe by the Communist guerrilla forces during the course of the recent guerrilla warfare in Greece, and requests the President to exert all of his powers, acting through the United Nations and other international organizations and directly with the governments of the countries where these children are located, to the end that these thousands of children shall be speedily returned to their homes and homeland ."

All the children came from Greece. They were grecophones and slavophones. The decision of their forceful abduction was taken in Belgrade in March 1948 during the International Conference of the Balkan Youth, by all the communists. The reasoning had to do with the "protection" of the children by the "monarch-fascist" greek government and with the "fear" that the children could find themselves in the middle of the military operations. True reason? The communist army had the need of every single person available in its ranks for military and operative causes (it was by then losing the fight) and in this case the women-mothers occupied in taking care of their children. Slogans like "i (a mother) have four children! I'll send them all abroad ,so i'll be able to contribute with all my forces to the creation of a free democratic Greece" were used to convince parents.Even more these children could become a future reserve for the communist army in any case.
The transportation of the children was coordinated by the Greek Communist Party in accordance with the relative communist party of the country that would host the children.Their education too.Every single part of their life. For example those who desagreed with the communist line once in the new country were exiled ,imprisoned, not allowed to go to university...
It did not take long for the greek communists to lose control ,as in the case of Yugoslavia.According to the policy of the GCP slavophone and grecophone children should not be separated during the educational process, since the objective of both was common: the return to their homeland,Greece. This policy faced the yugoslavian one which had as its aim the separation of the children and the introduction of the slavophone ones to native families of the "Socialist republic of macedonia" .Guess why? The grecophone children were obliged to learn the slavic language made in yugoslavia too, something that would surely contribute to the assimilation of these children also in the local society, "raising" them all in the end ethnically as genuine "macedonians" .
It is obvious that despite the agreements made between greek and yugoslav communists, the latter had no intention from the beginning to hand the children back after the end of the hostilities (the supposed primary reason). The reason is quite clear seeing those adults and the political ideology they represent.
It is interesting to note that there were various revolts in the institutions were the children were hosted, with the demand to be sent to their parents. Descriptions of these revolts are found in letters sent to the secretary of the U.N. The result of the revolts was the separation of the older from the younger children ,the first being acused of being "cominformists"!!! Despite the revolts the authorities did not satisfy the demand, but took all the necessary measures to keep the children in their territory. Finally, the teachers of the children who had accompanied them from the moment they left Greece, slavophone teachers too among them, were gradually removed by yugoslavian authorities with various accusations. Persons who could in any way recall something in the childrens minds, had no place in this new social order......

Georgios Tsakos from Florina, age 13. He was violently abducted by a communist band. He was able to save himself by fleeing. The bandits shot him.

Eleni Iousouli. Her father,a priest, was tortured and murdered from the communist guerillas. He was also forced to give all he had to the communist army. Some weeks after his murder his daughter was violently recruited in the DSE in order to become an fighter!.This is just one of the many tragedies that took place during the years 46-49 in Greece.

Greek children being led across the border to Yugoslavia. Notice that they are wearing winter clothes, but no shoes!

Is the UN a propaganda machine? Or rather instead the former communist countries had propaganda machines?

During the Greek civil war the communist forces had planned in the Comintern meeting of January-February 1948, the abduction of 28,000 Greek children from Macedonia (in Greece). The children, some of Slavic descent, abducted by the communist forces were taken to camps in the Communist countries. Greece repeatedly requested their return through the United Nations. Following 8000 petitions from parents whose children had been abducted, in November 17, 1948 and also in November 1949 the UN General assembly passed two resolutions 193 and 288 condemning the abductions of 28000 Greek children and demanding their return. These and all subsequent UN resolutions were not answered. From 1950 to 1952 only 684 children are permitted to return to Greece and this happened because the pressure of the Red Cross and the two new UN Resolutions (517 and 618). The relevant UN resolutions were: UN resolution 193, 1948; UN Resolution 288, 1949; Resolution 382, 1950; Resolution 517, 1951; UN Resolution 618, 1952.

Paidomazoma - Communist children abductions in the Greek civil war

Georgios Manoukas was the General Inspector of the 1946 Child Gathering and also a former member of KKE (Greek communist Party). He returned in Greece in 1961 and published a book on the Paidomazoma. He examines Comitern intentions behind its policy towards the children and concludes that from the beginning of the Yugoslav government (Tito) falsified the numbers of these children, integrated them into the population of the Republic of Macedonia, and acculturated them into the new “Macedonian” culture. Some children were trained and sent back to Greece to fight, indeed as janissaries.

One of the five-member council during the children abduction era was the Slav Macedonian Sikavitsas. This person was responsible for the Slavophone children. In the so-called Mountain Government (KKE), there were two Slavophone “ministers”. Their names were Metrovsky and Stavro Kocev. These Slavophones visited the children and aimed at the elimination of the Greek language used by the children.
Their lectures used terms terms such as Macedonian autonomy, Greece was a creation of the Big Powers, Slavic Macedonians were the only descendants of the ancient Macedonians, freedom to the occupied Aegean Macedonia from the monarchofasists, e.t.c.

FYROM propagandists claim all the children were Slavophones. Of course this is a lie. In the book one can find the places where children were taken. 18.500 went to Bulgaria (17 camps), Romania (11 camps), Hungary (11 camps), Czechoslovakia (18 camps), Poland (3 camps), East Germany and Albania (5 camps), 9.500 went in Yugoslavia (15 camps). Those numbers and the locations are recorded also by the Red Cross

On November 17, 1948 (UN Resolution 193), and also in November 1949 (UN Resolution 288) the UN General assembly passed unanimously two resolutions condemning the removal of the Greek children, demanding their return. These andsubsequent UN resolutions were not answered. From 1950 to 1952 only 684 children were permitted to return to Greece because of the pressure of the Red Cross and two new UN Resolutions.

By 1963, around 4000 children (some of them born in Communist countries) have been repatriated. Of those who did not return many died of illness, some escaped to Germany and others have since returned or have yet to return.

Ironically FYROM government denies any discussion because they know of the past. However, a series of videos appearing on the web, statements made on internet forums and even by a Skopian journalist on tv unbelievably claim there had been a genocide against Slav children and Slavs in general, as many Slavs had to leave Macedonia after the end of the communist uprising. They completely airbrush the fact that the Bulgarians by 1944 had expelled 100,000 Greeks from the regions of Macedonia they occupied and some 7000 Bulgarians had moved to take up their place, who left at the end of the war. They also airbrush the fact that Slavs from Bulgaria and Yugoslavia fought together with the Greek communists on a brockered deal that if the communists succeeded, Macedonia and Thrace would be annexed by Yugoslavia and Bulgaria respectively. These Slav volunteers of course left. However, the numbers of Slavs in Greece estimated at around 25-30,000 before the second world war remained about the same after it. The real war crime, was the crime against the Greek children.

2) Child Gathering Vol II, Education and Teaching of the kidnapping Greek children, Georgios Manoukas, 1967

Unsurprisingly, the communist countries and leaders did not complain about a genocide of Slavs in Greece when it was supposed to have happened. At least they did not complain to the UN. If they could not bother complaining at the UN, why did they not complain at the Comintern meetings? There was apparently according to Manoukas one case of such a complaint: One Mrs Zahariadis (probably a sister or wife of the Greek communist leader) tried to justify the abductions by claiming that the Greek army or the Queen of Greece were planning to abduct the children first, so the Communists saved them!

In any case, the reason no one from the communist countries complained about the children abductions at the Cominterm meetings was because the genocidal abduction of the Greek children was planned in a Comintern meeting early in 1948.

Consecutive unanimous UN resolutions put the blame for this war crime squarely on the communist side. They condemn among else the abduction of 28000 Greek children from Macedonia that were not being returned even after the UN received 8000 petitions from parents in Greece wanting their children back. The reason was partly blackmail, partly a kind of scorched earth policy, partly communist janissarism and sometimes a claim that as everyone in the countryside able to fight had to be conscripted to the communist army, children needed to be taken care of by host families. However, in reality children were taken in miserable camps with appalling hygiene, lived mostly in squalor for the exception of the few lucky ones, such as a number that were taken to Eastern Germany. They were usually separated from their brothers and sisters and so it can hardly be said that the care of the children was the primary concern of the communists. Of course the parents had sometimes to stay on the side of the communists in the hope of seeing again their children and therefore had to fight for the communist cause. Mothers who resisted the abductions were killed. Those who did not resist were often pressed into military service. Those men and women who tried to escape conscription were beaten, tortured and sometimes were killed.

And those children that were never returned to Greece were indoctrinated that they had been taken from Greece to protect them from the Greek government and were raised in Yugoslavia and elsewhere to think that some great injustice had been done against them. This twisted claim of a Slav genocide in Macedonia is more evil then evil.

The texts of the two UN resolutions can be found online:

UN Resolution 193, 1948
http://daccessdds.un.org/doc/RESOLUTION/GEN/N...

UN Resolution 288, 1949
http://daccessdds.un.org/doc/RESOLUTION/GEN/N...

Both titled: Threats to the political independence and territorial integrity of Greece. The vote from the UN general assembly was UNANIMOUS - both times.

Here is a relevant text from the second resolution:

RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE U.N DURING ITS FOURTH SESSION.
THREATS TO THE POLITICAL INDEPENDENCE AND TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF GREECE - 288 (IV)(18 November 1949)

Noting the report submitted by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the League of the Red Cross Societies on the question of the repatriation of Greek children, and expressing warm appreciation of the efforts made by the two International Red Cross organizations to facilitate the implementation of General Assembly resolution 193 (III) C,Noting that the Greek children have not as yet been returned to their homes….
…2.Urges all the Members of the United Nations and other States harbouring the Greek children to make all necessary arrangements, in consultation and co-operation with the international Red Cross organizations,for the early return to their homes of the children with the aforementioned resolution;

A great evil can be made by small men.

"During the [World War II] occupation...a combined effort was made to wrest Macedonia from Greece --- an effort that allegedly continues, although in altered form... The main conspirational activity in Macedonia today appears to be directed from Skopje."

Announcement in Greek from Bucharest to the “Voice of America” 14 Feb 1950

“The Voice of America cannot stomach the fact that 28,000 Greek children and Slav Macedonians were transported to the Peoples’ Republics with the full accord of their parents. These children will continue to live there according to the wish of their parents, will be educated in their own language and national spirit and will learn a trade…”

Here is an example of the agreement of a family to send their children to the Iron Curtain to be “educated in their own language and national spirit and to learn a trade”.

The village schoolteacher in Zerma in 1947 was one named Mitsis.I do not know if he is still living. He had a wife and five children.

Boudapest, August 1949. We had our base in Budapest. In August 1949 I was supervisor of the Central Office and “Inspector” again of the Paidomazoma. One day Yiannis, the colleague in charge of censorship says to me:“Comrade, a letter has arrived and it appears to be suspicious from beginning to end. Read so that we may see what this fascist says”.

I took the “suspicious letter”, put it in my pocket and continued my work. In the afternoon after I had finished, I went by the Danube and I sat somewhere, watching the turbid water of the Danube that flowed quietly. There I remembered the letter of the “fascist” I had in my pocket. I took it out, I saw it was well written and scanned to the bottom of it to see who was writing. I saw then it was from Mitsis, the schoolteacher of Zerma. What does he want - I thought to myself. What business does he have with us? And, my God, the wretched man wanted to know where his children were, where is his little one, whether he cries for his father and mother and whether they are all together,“Whether Spyridoula takes care of you”… and “try to find where your mother is because I do not know”. I read it over and over again. I remembered it was his Encyclopedia that we had confiscated and he was one our men were hunting and wanted to kill.
