Nearly 13,000 IKA pensioners unaccounted for

The number of pensioners who have failed to register in the latest census by the country's biggest social security provider, IKA, stood at 12,778 on November 11, with the deadline for registrations set on November 26, the organization said on Tuesday.
People receiving pensions from IKA have until that date to appear at their local branch in person or by sending a certified representative, or risk missing out on future pension payments.
IKA has been conducting an audit in order to root out false claimants, giving an extension until November 26 from a previous end-October deadline after some 91,124 registered pensioners did not participate in the process, as many believed that they were still be covered by a census carried out last year,

Lazy Cheat Greek Video Goes Viral

A new video about the negative image of Greece cultivated by international media has gone viral over the last few days becoming particularly popular in the world of social networks. The video featuring Alex and his story is an attempt launched by Omikronproject.gr to reverse Greece’s image during its crushing economic crisis and reverse what critics called ironic and false remarks made against the Greeks.
“Alex could be anyone” begins the short video and carries on with the numerous prejudices and stereotypes currently labeling Greeks. It shows that the world believes he is a “lazy, cheating, ungrateful, helpless, corrupt, violent, rude, racist, tax-evading, trouble-making, thieving vandal who lives with his mother,” and tries to disprove it with understated irony.
Omikron Project is a group of regular guys and girls living in a crisis-hit country called Greece, as their Facebook profile reads. The projection of what they say are inaccurate images of life in Greece made the group decide to do something other than complain about it.
Omikron Project’s mission is to give people outside Greece a fuller picture of what’s going on in the country, and let them make up their own minds about the situation. The groups wished to tell the untold side of the Greek crisis and bring down the stereotypes built against the country’s people.

Now see this; Reuters Report “Curtain Falling on Greece’s Ruling Dynasts”
Posted on 09 December 2011 by Stella Tsolakidou Tags: Greek political system, nepotism, Reuters agency, ruling families. According to Reuters’ report “Curtain Falling on Greece’s Ruling Dynasts”, the end for the ruling political families in Greece is very near.
The report is explaining all the reasons why the political situation in Greece is bound to change but underlines that “nepotism and patronage are so deeply rooted, and family and clan loyalties so strong, that change will not come quickly”.
“Political culture doesn’t change overnight and Greek politics is in many ways personalistic and polarized, where the name of the family is far more important than any other credentials,” told Othon Anastasakis, director of Southeast European studies at Britain’s Oxford University to Reuters.
The current recession, however, has brought a wind of change in relative opinion polls, showing that leading PASOK and ND parties are no longer getting the former support from the Greek people as they used to.
The Karamanlis, Papandreou and Mitsotakis families have ruled Greece for almost 50 years in rotation, rendering their names the only qualification for getting at least a seat in parliament. This nepotism had turned the Greek political system into a closed profession, leaving no room for new people and new ideas.
