EC Agrees to Abolish Visas by December 19th PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 November 2009

EU Council agreed scrapping visa requirements for citizens of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro to be implemented as of December 19 this year.

This was decided unanimously by the Permanent Representatives Committee or “COREPER”, EU Council confirmed.

The motion of lifting the visa obligations for the three Balkan countries will be addressed by European Parliament. The EU Council is expected to endorse the motion November 11.

The motion was adopted after Slovenia’s foreign ministry tabled the proposal at the meeting of a business visa group within the EU council.

Lifting the visa obligations ahead of schedule could be a Christmas gift and a New Year's gift for the citizens of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenian foreign ministry said.

Lifting Visa restrictions does not mean joining the EU. Greece is going to VETO your pathetic fake country and the Albanians will finish you off!

Abolishing VISA's gives your people the right to visit the EU countries without the process of seeking permission, and filling out paperwork, and your visits are still restricted to 90 days.

Lifting VISA's does not mean you will be able to work in the EU countries, something your people desperately need with their 35% unemployment.

Lifting VISA's does not mean you will get financial help from the EU.

Lifting VISA's does not mean you will get security from being part of the EU.

While it is good to allow your people some freedom to travel and visit other countries in Europe, without the hassle of paperwork; you should not pin your hopes on the lifting of VISA's to help you with your unemployment, financial, and the security problems you face in FYROM.

So what does your "removed the only condition on which Yunanistan was counting in it's "name dispute" farse" mean? What condition was that that you did not already enjoy? All you are gaining from this is the elimination of the hassle of filling out VISA paperwork for your visits to EU countries, no?

I think the only thing you have forgotten is your Bulgarian roots, but Greece is on your mind 24/7.

While it's true that the Visa lifting will only enable 90 day stays, i'm sure that in time it will grow to cover students studying abroad as well as those seeking employment overseas. Especially those seeking employment in markets where there are skills shortages.

In the UK for example there is a shortage of doctors, dentists and pharmacists which could be reduced if suitable Macedonians could be found to fill the gaps. Equally, Education and other sectors would "cherry-pick" individuals.

Macedonian sportsmen and women would have greater access to both training facilities and playing contracts too, which would help national teams.

Soon, restrictions will be eased. While I agree with the Greek view that visa liberalization isn't visa removal, it is a step towards it.

As for EU monies and protection. Macedonia already receives lots of EU development monies, without the burden of paying into EU coffers, and it already receives much by way of security from both the EU, NATO and the US. Many projects currently underway in Macedonia are covered by external funding. The infrastructure is getting better (especially if the guys fixing the road outside my appartment are anything to go on).

It seems as though the EU is preparing Macedonia for entry by enhancing things already here regardless of Greek objection. Of course, most Greeks wouldn't see this as to them there is simply a void North of them!

It is this 'follie des grandeurs' that does not allow you to actually be with the rest of the community of nations. It is called MEGALOMANIA and it is a paranoic state of mind.It also makes you sound ridiculous.
So,according to you E.U can't wait from offering you priviledges over Greece,or they are eager leaving Greece behind, ignoring it!
Have you asked yourselves why would E.U want any of that, for what purpose?
Do you not see that those might be dangerous phantasms?
This excessive self importance you attribute to yourselves must be put on the negative account of what the lies Tito told you about being a special kind of people did to you.
You are 'special' alright!

You should have every right to travel freely. Your citizens should be given opportunities to advance their lives in whatever way they wish, in your own country or in somebody else’s. After all, it’s almost 2010 not the depths of the cold war of the last century.

If you haven’t been yet, I suggest you visit Macedonia and wonder at its incredible Hellenic history.

Although you might find the region completely foreign at first, after a while you will grow to admire what these ancient Greeks achieved.

I know many foreigners who have been to Vergina and loved it. You will probably be no different.

Obviously Andre doesn't come here too often, or he's had a bang on the head, or possibly both.

All i am saying is that the Visa liberalization is a good thing for the Macedonians that could lead to better things. The EU is doing good things for Macedonia, and could do a lot more. Yet when you have a small population, even "crumbs" go a long way to making things better.

Why he insists on calling me a monkey I haven't a clue. Perhaps it is his own animal fetish coming to the fore, either way way I do not know or particularly care!

But it is not your name, it is a name you have misappropriated.

That legacy belongs to the Ancient Greeks who fought for that empire, and spread their culture and language. The protection of that legacy, and the pride felt due to that conquest falls to their Greek offspring, not to a Slavic Bulgarian people who during the cold war were political motivated and mostly forcibly changed from Turks and Bulgarians to Slavic "Macedonians".

Don't try and deceive and confuse people with your cold war fabrication and misappropriation of that Greek tribal name. You just sound stupid.

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Scorpio

You're feeling conciliatory and compassionate today, and you're ready to bury the hatchet if you've been at odds with someone recently. You may have to make the first move, and risk getting a brush off, but you'll consider that a small price to pay if it means you're able to restore the peace. The relief you feel will tell you how much this has been preying on your mind.
