Haiti gained its independence since 1804. It was the first independent nation in Latin America, the first post-colonial independent black-led nation in the world, and the only nation whose independence was gained as part of a successful slave rebellion.
Also of note is the fact that Haiti was the first country that recognised the Greek Revolution (1821) and the Greek state.
A small force of Haitians departed from their island to come and help in the Greek Revolution however they never arrived in Greece.
Also they send to Adamantios Korais (scholar and a Great Tutor of the Greek Nation) who lived in France, several sacks of coffee beans, so that he could “sell them and get money for the Greek Revolution”. Naïve and silly may be you think but touching too!
The ex-slaves could understand the Greeks who were seeking independence.

I think it’s a time of need for this poor country bitterly hit by the elements.
All people should help and we the Greeks especially for one more reason as mentioned above.

No lilalo, for the moment I have nothing. i think there is not even an embassy in Athens. May be from some UN address through the internet although a quick search was of no result.

It is a good idea to contribute to the red cross, doctors without borders or Yele - which is a singer's charity, are the most active charities in Haiti. That's who needs it the most
