Ke qhololitose ke sehloho sa litaba se reng ‘SOUTHERN AFRICA: Increasing hostility towards Chinese traders’

Mofuta ona oa batho ke ipotsa ka mehla na…what makes them tick? What can we (Africans) learn from them rather than forever bitterly be complaining. These people are incredible…they cross the seas, foreign boarders and move into the remotest areas where locals would not dare to go in search of opportunities. They do not only compete in trade with locals BUT at remarkably lower prices affordable to the consumers…

The Chinese political system and economic growth should definitely provide an interesting subject for political/economic debates academically. Scholars should be providing us - in the third world, with well researched and intelligent answers how we can progress faster economically and beat poverty…through Chinese experience. My research into the Chinese system of political governance revealed something I’d never had before, perhaps unique to the Chinese people - People’s Congress System. I then thought…wow! that’s a quite a revolutionized name for communism. Is this perhaps the same system we use in Lesotho??? Nah…I doubt

This is what my source says about this system:“The past 50 years have proved that the people’s congress system accords with the national conditions of China. It not only ensures that people exercise state power in a concerted way and gives full play to their enthusiasm and initiative as masters of the state, but also creates favorable conditions for state organs to share the work and help one another in organizing the socialist construction.” I read more of this and I go…Wow! someone thought Malema is a barbarian who flaps his mouth about things he knows nothing about.

The Chinese are now not only becoming a nuisance/thorn to blacks in Southern Africa…the Western World is incensed and not sure how to quell them. They’re, simply put…taking over the world in a rather gigantic way in all economic aspects AND someone fed me poison when I was a scholar that Communism would never work - Eurocentric Education/Poison/Bulls...t. I am not its great fan of communism, I however love the Chinese' independence....they are in charge of their world.

Moana - My personal expirience with chinese people have not being great.
1. they have very low moral standings
2. They want to win by hook or crook
3. Have no regard for human life and dignity
So I am just wondering if you want us to forget our ubuntu spirit and adopt this I dont care attitude from the chinese.

I dont think so, all we need to do and stand firm and implement our african value system, in that way we will achieve more in a more respectable dignified manner.

Semathana, I still say why acquire a system that we dont believe in as africans, a system that will creater even a wider gap bettween the haves and the have not. Should we adopts such a system then we must part with our ubuntu values and embrace greed and corruption.

i find this rather naive. we live - like it or not, in a globalized world. the Chinese use economic model of rational behaviour; this assumes that people are guided primarily by their own self-interests and, more important, that the motivations of people in the economic process are no different from those on the streets, or in politic or in any public or private sector. I am not against ubuntu; its a great idea but globally, the idea remains utopia. absolutely fictional.

The rise and rise of the Chinese economy cannot be attributed to communism alone, it is rather a combination of the 'free market system'(capitalism if you may), socialism and communism i suppose. You will realize that there is a huge(and i mean a really huge) community of the new 'super rich' in China as a result of this....i guess they use anything that works without stifling economic growth with definitions of economy, but politically they remain just that...communists! I'm no expect, and perhaps i might be wrong, but this is just my observation...

.....we African's(or at least a significant portion)seem to have a problem rising to the occassion.....notice how you yourself refer to Africans as 'blacks'. That i think is where our problem still lies, we(unfortunately this is generalization) still consider ourselves inferior to others.....

Brother KT! When u tlk about abuntu, u crush my heart ha bohloko bona boo coz believe u me – if I could go back in time and make fresh choices, I’d choose to be selfish. Two renowned people made me opened my eyes to how stupid and narrow minded I was loving other people more than I do love myself…m the kind of person who would sacrifice me for you. Those two are Oprah and Dr. Phil…with Oprah it was an article in one of her magazines and this is what she had to say…with all the riches around her, she was not happy coz of the inborn ubuntu spirit she had. One of the days however, she discovered that introducing a bit of selfishness in her life brought her a peace of mind. Dr. Phil reiterated Oprah’s sentiments in his book ‘Self Matters’…he started his professional life as a physician, a profession he chose to make his parents proud – he was however not fulfilled in life. Then he discovered where his true love is…the current profession. How many of us understand the true meaning of the Bible verse Mark 12:31 ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’…it is as a matter of fact teaching us that we have to be selfish in this life – first love yourself and only then give the same love to other people.

Its not such a bad thing to be selfish brother KT…may I say, carefully read brother Tlepere’s response – he hit it spot on. My brother! We live in a ‘dog eat dog world today’…the West and Americans are milking the rest of the world, why shouldn’t the Asians do the same? The fight by the Arab world is a simply one ‘The Right To Self Determination”…colonialism is still within us and more deadlier – ot turn us into their puppets with the sole aim is to controlling the rest of the world. That’s a selfish GOAL wouldn’t you say???

I just wish my brothers and sisters would learn from our mistakes TAKE THE FIGHT ON to reclaim all that we’ve lost. We to fight for what rightfully belongs to us…our AFRICAN INDEPENDENCE.

DJ dear friend! I do agree with you…they’re however doing exactly what the rest of the developed world is doing. As for blacks…in Africa, I respect the Nigerians a lot – those brothers and sistas are all over the world and making money from the same ‘I don’t care’ attitude. Cumon now! why should they (Chinese) care about empowering us…how will they be able to manipulate us if they give us wisdom?

Brother/Sister K-Pax! Yes…the Chinese adopted and perfected a system that works for them socially and economically. Even the West is not practicing pure Capitalism…they intervene as a state a lot. An economy totally controlled by the market would result in chaos. So! Extreme Capitalism and Extreme Communism does not work or exist…the West (capitalism) and the East (communism) are slowly but surely coming to an equilibrium point – two lines from opposite directions moving up and bending gradually towards each other. This is all hypocritical…

I am referring to black Africans coz I rarely hear white, Indian and Asian Africans complain about foreigners. Now! let’s come to Africa…no stance, swaying which ever direction the strong wind blows.

Moana, i think we do not have the same understanding of ubuntu. Ubuntu means loving caring for others the same as you do for your self, not caring for others more than yourself. So right there your principles about the principles are not in sync or balanced.

About Oprah and Dr phil remember not everything that comes of their mouth is manna from heaven and its not entirely what they practice. We only know their TV personality which i think it wont serve injustice to cast them on stone.

I want to draw your attention of one of the highly people practicing ubuntu, who are the Jewish community and South african Indian community. According to me they are championing the ubuntu spirit very very well and are far better than Chinese crap system. I regret that you cherish selfishness which goes hand iin hand with greed. And i just wonder what creation would rather be selfish in order to accumulate wealth.

And you can ask again, is that sustainable for our economy, when are we going to make an impact in the world about our authentic systems rather than copy catting from anybody. Rise africa stop the copy cat and leave ur own trail. America did it their own way, Britain, Germans, even the chines, without one copying the other why should we go and copy??????????

Brother KT! Somehow we have a common ground…I hate copy cats. I don’t mind learning from other’s experiences HOWEVER let’s make it suit us. To make matters worse we’re not even good at copying…the Asians copying a lot in technology from the West, HOWEVER, altered it to suit them and perfected it to beat 'em.

As for Oprah and Dr. Phil…they only brought to surface a feeling that always troubled me – being hurt all the time for doing good. That 'Aha...I knew it' moment.

Later frnd…m having a busy schedule

Can someone with personal business expirience with the chinese tell us about their expiriences...

My expirience with them started in 2003 in Zambia in a mine called NFC outside Kitwe. They promised the Zambian government that they will built infrastructure around the mine and houses and will also offer locals the opportunity for locals to own resturants withing=n the settlement, and off course offer local work in the mine.

And what came out was yes the settlement was made, but the inhabitants where chineese, when zambians questioned it they said locals did not want to rent them, then the resturants were owned by chinese and when questioned they said locals cannot prepare chineese food. And when it came to the mine, they made the locals work underground without ventiltion system. Anyone who has gone underground will tell you how terrrible it is, and this led to the tragedy of many people that died and then locals started fearing their lives and stoped working there, this gave chinese to get people from china to come and work at the mine and installed a ventilation.

Recently I was approached by a person who has been enquiring about buying one of our machines and he is Black, last month he came with 2 chinese guys who posed as his financiers, after a long discussion they wanted me to sell them drawings of our machines amd when I told them to fuck off they invited me for dinner where i actually went. And at the dinner table they actually offered me money for to give them drawings. And guess what I did. So i am not talking about something i read on the paper or research about, i have ties with a lot of chinese people and some of them admit that they are the worst people on earth in terms of human rights.
