I invite you all to respect each other and be logical. I don't have to read history books and research. All I need is to look around Lebanon and at the archeological sites spread on all its corners and ask the question: Do these archeological sites belong to one civilization? the answer is a simple NO.
Therefore, no one can claim that Lebanon or the Lebanese belong to one race or one ethnic group. It is as if we are saying that all Americans are Italians or Irish just because (if) I happen to be Irish or Italian and this does not make sense. People have to respect each other and acknowledge their unique aspects. You do not impose "Arabism" on people just because you are convinced that you are an Arab and the other cannot impose "Europeanism" on you just because he or she is convinced to be a European. The logic is for each to keep his or her identity to himself or herself. But at the end of the day the truth is that Lebanon is a very unique diverse land and society that it would be so pitty just to be categorized under one group. So as a logical Lebanese Muslim, I say that Lebanon is not an Arab. If I say so, then I will be ignoring all tangible facts that exist on the ground. And most seriously, I will be diminishing the background and contributions of those who are related to the archeological ruins that exist in our own backyard! |
