Board of Water Supply and Government officials..... are you discussing this? Could this happen to Hawaii? Our population is much more than Kiribati, too.

How about building some desalination plants? But on the other hand, storms will wipe out the plants. Better to move elsewhere.

I'm in a quandary. Is the sea level rising around Oahu? around Japan? around Britain? I've not seen data that supports sea rising except where it pertains to coral atolls in the Pacific Basin. Are the seas rising? or are the dormant volcanos the coral built around sinking? More science, please. And for an interesting take on Kiribati, read "Sex Lives of Cannibals" by J. Maarten Troost.

I have to disagree with Dave. I was stationed on Bikati, Makin Atoll, for 14 months at a USCG Loran Station. As the Medic I treated a lot of the natives on the island. The gals were some of the prettiest I have ever seen. I returned to the island in 1998, 50 years later, and I still stand by my statement.

Sea levels are rising everywhere; so far they have only come up a little, it's more about planning for the future. But a mean sea level rise of 2 inches (and correspondingly higher high tides) makes a much bigger difference when you live on an island that's only 3 feet above high tide level at its highest point. Many of these islands can be swamped in storms with high surges, and on some the water was already barely drinkable due to salt mixing.

Whether its global warming or just the natural cycle of the planet the fact is their islands will soon be uninhabitable.

Waiting around for scientist to agree on the global warming issue is abit like telling the Pope to believe in Allah.

Sea level rise is very real its not rocket science! having a relocation plan for your people is a very good idea.

I agree with you John, we must have plans to set aside if that happens or not. Our problems is your problems as we are one people and one nation just like as you're on the other side of the coin and we are on the other side. But please don't talk nonsense. Be a man.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Scorpio

The thought of the sales is almost too good to resist today, and you'll jump at the chance to see what's on offer. Even better if you can snap up some bargains at the same time. It's certainly a good day for investing your money carefully, but make sure you aren't more seduced by the reduction in the cost of something than in the item itself. Are you certain that you want to buy it?
