A doomsday pessmistic look at the situation in 40-50 years from now, but must be regarded as a proactive approach. What else can one does considering current scientific evidence? While KAP I and II are still on the fact remains that cessation of Kiribati burning fire for survival as opposed to USA burning fire for leisure will do nothing to avert this apparently unstoppable nose-dive into extinction.

I suppose this must be the USA's fault, despite the fact that even the UN says that a vast brown cloud hangs over Asia, caused by the uneconomic and unscientific methods used there. Why don't these people ask these Asian nations for help? When parts of our coastline went under water, I don't real any other country helping us.

mr. Giblets please expound on your statement that it "must be the United States fault"...for what?? The United States is to be blamed for an imminent natural disaster? Is it to be blamed for the topograhical features and location of this island state? Kiribati is a pacific nation...within what is deemed the Asian Pacific region.

What unscientific and uneconomic methods are you alluding to in your statement? If there is a cloud hanging over the Pacific region specifically it is the fact that...most of the island nations are considered as LDC's and are struggling to meet the Millenium Development goals of democratic globalization...targeted for 2015.

Democratic globalization is a wonderful word, an ideal state of being. Yet, the plight of these smaller island nations is a struggle against time and in this case with the reality of a catastropnic event looming on the horizon(matters not if 40,50 or 60 years from now).....Tell me where the United States fits in as the responsible party in this whole scenario.

Perhaps the knowledge that most of the aid(whether it be Disaster,Humanitarian or for Development) offered to LDC's has a pricetag..and is most relatively political....maybe thats why they dont ask for it.
You cant conviniently blame the United States for everything that happens in the world. It is not blameless...but then you have to be clear as to why you think it is or should be accountable for what is happening in Kiribati.
Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Mmmm, we got to put this issue right. The fact and views concerning climate change impact on Kiribati has been overly exaggerated and pessimistic.

The President has got it wrong, because there is no clear scientific evidences that Kiribati is to be submerged in water after 100 years time from now.

The fact should be made clear, right and straight. South Tarawa obviously seems to be the only island in the group seriously affected by climate change (CC). However, not only CC is to blame, the major factor behind the problems on South Tarawa is the very high unnecessary population. This is a political issue that needs to be resolved immediately, yet unfortunately, no decisive action has been taken to counter this problem/issue. Serious problems of erosion and water shortages and quality are in part largely due to the high population on STarawa. So unless we admit this, and do something more prudent and proactive, we can not resolve such issues that have been part of our daily lives.

Indeed, relocation, or what not, are not the wise solutions to Kiribati problems.

Go to the outer islands, nothing big has changed since Nareau's time! So are we really doomed?

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Taurus

Make a big effort to spend time with people you didn't see on Christmas Day, especially if they're older than you or are having a bad time at the moment. You're brimming over with compassion and empathy, which will be really appreciated by anyone who's on the receiving end of them. You're also in the mood to make allowances for people, and that will help enormously.
