Why did the Japs get off so much on torturing their victims when most of them were Asian just like them?

From my experience, they have low self-consciousness. This phenomenon is quite everywhere in the community where group thinking is ruling.

This is also the reason why soldiers can be easily commanded to sacrifice their life for war. Oh yes, I had been in military for 4 years, so I know this phenomenon quite well.

So, their culture is not unique. If you pick random children, and give them military education, they will behave like japanese in some degree, especially for low self-consciousness part which leads to the group thinking phenomenon.
