I live in Norway and it is not fair to say that the 'country' is anti-semitic. Many people in Norway are socialist and are pro-palestine and supportive of the muslims instead of the jews. The left wing government is a socialist government. I agree many of my fellow norwegians are narrow minded and anti-semitic. But i am not! And i will never become a communist or socialist like these morons living in this country. Trust me there are thousands with the same views as myself, so unfortunately at the moment..yes Norway is very anti-semitic!

Any theories on why socialists hate Israel so much? I think it's a relic of the cold-war and they hate Israel because Israel is allied with the US.

No, for Semites non-Semites and antisemites are equal terms.

I suspect that what Israeli media report as 'Anti-Semitism' is actually a strong dislike of the actions of the current & past Israeli Govts.

Many people in Europe and around the world are deeply unhappy with the illegal actions of the Israeli Govt, this does not mean they hate all 'Semites'(Arabs are a Semitic People as well) or Jews, they just dislike the political direction of the the Israeli State.

Lots of people disliked the actions of the former US Govt - didn't mean they hated all Americans.

The Israeli media (for the most part) will play up what they consider Anti-Semitism for internal Israeli consumption, it is simply an attempt to bolster the 'us against the world' mentality of the Zionistic elements of Israeli society.

And why do you claim the BBC (other news channels are available) are anti-Israel?
For the reporting of alleged Israeli atrocities?
The BBC reports Palestinian atrocities as well.

For the critical analysis of Israeli political direction?
The BBC analyses Hamas/Fatah as well.

It appears that any person or organisation that criticises Israeli policy is inherently 'anti-semitic' in much the same way that any American speaking out against the Bush Administration was shouted down by some as 'anti-American'.

The actions of any State are not above investigation and/or criticism, Israel is in defiance of several UN Resolutions and this alone should be enough to bring inspection of her actions.
Hamas/Fatah/PLO are all regularly condemned as terrorists yet they all have/had a political powerbase amongst their own people. Why should the Israeli state not be held to the same account as those it opposes?

Word meanings are taken from useage. The word "antisemitism" was coined to mean dislike of Jews, and that is its useage. It has never been used to refer to dislike of Arabs.

I'm currious, do you honestly believe you can insulate yourself from the charge of Jew-hatred if you obscure the most common word used to describe it? Call it antisemitism or judeophobia, holding one people to a different standard than other people is still bigotry.

Hey Zinfab, Cassual Observer may be in that gathering of left wing loons trying to goose step into Gaza. The only other time he disappeared from Topix that I know of was during an anti-Cast lead protest in the Allentown area.
Either that or he got run over by a dump truck.

Well, if he did get run over by a dumptruck then we should all bow our head for a moment of silence while we reflect on the deep personal tragedy of that poor fellow who would have to clean that scum off that truck.

I see no wrong in pointing out that a term is not very good. Since semite may refer to both jews and arabs, it makes no sense referring to a judeophob as an anti-semite.

By that logic it is bigotry to cut Israel more slack in regards to human rights, war crimes, compiance to UN resolutions, etc, than Palestine.

And why is it not allowed to report about the wrong doings of Israel when it is clearly not a problem when the arabs are to fault...?
