This is a great way to talk with Hamas without offically talking to them.Jimmy Carter can meet with them as a “Private citizen”. If he get some consessions from Hamas thats great. If nothing comes out of it he was "unoffical" and was told not to go in the first place. Its a win win for the administration.
you want people who have in effect been forced to live in open air concentration camps by the israelis to make concessions?
should they concede that the israelis take 100 % of their land rather than just the 80 % they have taken so far?

I can't believe that someone stated that history will show Carter to be a good president. OMG! You have to be kidding!

Unemployment in the double digits, lines snaking around gas pumps, odd/even days to get gas, and of course the infamous "turn your thermostat down and put on a sweater" speech. We won't even get into the mishandling of the hostage crisis.

Jimmy Carter reminds me of the elderly relative that you try to keep occupied in another part of the house when you have company in case he wets himself.

The man should stay retired and stick to building birdhouses.

shawn haley, i guess it is good that you are at least open to carter having these talks. still you manage to see carter as being useful to the extent that he is useful to israel and the US. what about caring about someone besides the US and israel?
or do i misunderstand your post?

We are still paying for Carter's cowardice and weakness as President. His wimpish handling of the Iranian hostage situation gave the Arabs the impression that the USA was weak willed. This was Obama bin Ladin premise for attacking the USA.(Oh, Osama not Obama, I keep getting those Muslims names all mixed up)
Had Carter dealt with the Iranians with an iron fist and kicked the Ayatollah's ass out of office, we would not be occupying two Muslim countries today. Oil would be $50 a barrel, gasoline $1.95 a gallon, and Osama bin Laden would be unknown.
Carter's Hamas meddling is more like senile dementia than diplomacy.
Wow, there are so many historical inaccuracies in your post, its difficult to know where to start. I think you need to get a hold of some history books, and start reading. Start with anything - it will help sort out your confusion.

Israel is the terrorist. For all the billions we give them ( and billions is payoffs to countries at "peace" with them)they wouldn't even offer him (like him or not, a US President) security. Time to cut ties with the racist, apartheid, land and water thieving settler colony. It does us no good to serve and obey Zionist orders.

Rice can warn all she wants but who would listen to a dope like that anyway?
If Carter wants to talk with them, so be it. There might be a chance for some peace-and at least these people will get the idea that we all don't dislike them-just the idiots in office at present ...it won't happen with this administration.

<quoted text>I don't agree that Carter is better than either Bush, he couldn't even get our hostages back after 18 months. And yes Arrafat was also a Nobel peace prize winner and a terrorist.
Regan's people talked with the iranians annd convenced them to hold the hostages until after the election and Ragan got into office the releace them and the would be treated very well. This threw the election away from Carter. When Ragan got into office they released the hostages and were treated well by the Ragan administration. Do a little research and remember what really happened, not Carters fault they held the hostages for Ragans election chances. Remember Iran=contra afair
