Irish village embraces link to Barack 'O'bama'

Full story: Chicago Tribune

Until recently, Moneygall's most famous son wasn't even human. It was a horse, Papillon, who streaked to the title as a long shot in a nail-biter at Britain's prestigious Grand National race in 2000.

I think it's supposed to be a type of tongue in cheek stunt for the town to get some publicity/attention. Yes, there may be a very very distant link but I think they're poking fun at it. They don't seriously believe the connection is that great.

To all of you people who always leave negetive comments... get a life! Why can't you just be happy for this little village with obviously not much else going on. Just put a smile on your face and be happy (for a second) will ya?

If all of you haters would spend half of that energy on something positive you would be much happier. That concept may be beyond you, however.

I would be much more happier for the village if they would take him and make him their village mayor or if the mayor job is already taken they could make him their village idiot.
Now that made me smile! Good one!

You've made it quite obvious that ignorance and idiocracy exist in the Northeast, too. Thanks.

This discussion board is linked to a news story that appears on the websites of many news organizations. Those separate websites all feed into the same discussion board at Topix, so, unfortunately, you New England folks have to actually interact with people from other parts of the country instead of just looking down your noses at us.

The Chinese, Russians ... even Canadains, etc. know ...
BUT the PC Main Stream Media won't/can't tell YOU!
The analytical profile on Barack Obama:

Get this straight -- historically, so called Irish protestants are NOT Irish! They were "planted" on land stolen from indigenous Irish people by tyrannical english royalty. Most were Scottish, hence the term Scots-Irish which is analogous to "Politically Correct." Let's call a spade a spade.
My Irish relatives refer to the Protestants as "the settlers".

There wasn't one hater before you on the board what are you talking about? If you can see into the future, please call Obama and tell him what he is doing is wrong. Happy O'Bama Day!

Ha, it seems like they have a good sense of humor around the whole thing. I thought the people in Kenya were going a little overboard, though they do have a more direct relation, but I think these guys are taking a unique bit of information and having some fun with it. What a nice little story for the holiday.

The Irish Bagpiper

As a bagpiper, I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man who had no family or friends. The funeral was to be held at a cemetery in the remote countryside and this man would be the first to be laid to rest there.

As I was not familiar with the backwoods area, I became lost and being a typical man, did not stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late. I saw the backhoe and the crew who were eating lunch but the hearse was nowhere in sight.

I apologized to the workers for my tardiness and stepped to the side of the open grave where I saw the vault lid already in place.

I assured the workers I would not hold them up for long but this was the proper thing to do. The workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I played out my heart and soul.

As I played the workers began to weep. I played and I played like I'd never played before, from Going Home and The Lord is My Shepherd to Flowers of the Forest. I closed the lengthy session with Amazing Grace and walked to my car.

As I was opening the door and taking off my coat, I overheard one of the workers saying to another, "Sweet Jeezuz, Mary'n Joseph, I never seen nothin' like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."

Why do you slam the Irish so hard? The Irish people have served our country well, and continue to do so. During 911, it was the Irish fireman entering those inflamed buildings, while others were leaving. In great numbers, they've always answered the call of duty. They are truly participants in our American culture. Happy Saint Patrick,s Day.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Capricorn

Confusion reigns supreme today, especially when dealing with financial matters. You could get into a muddle when sorting out your accounts or when working out how much you owe someone, even though you may not notice this at the time. It certainly isn't the day for parting with large sums of money because the chances of something going wrong are very high.
