Man convicted of Co Offaly rape

A Polish national has been convicted of raping and sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend in her County Offaly home after tying up her boyfriend and attacking him with a knife and baton.

The 43-year-old accused had pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to rape and oral rape on November 25th, 2007.

A jury on Friday returned guilty verdicts on charges of him entering the house as a trespasser while armed with a bladed weapon and a weapon capable of discharging a noxious liquid gas, false imprisonment of both the complainant and herboyfriend, aggravated sexual assault and raping her with a vibrator on November 25th, 2007.

The jury of three women and nine men took six hours and 41 minutes to reach its guilty verdict on the final two counts on day 10 of the trial.

He has pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to the complainant’s boyfriend on the same date

Mr Justice Peter Charleton thanked the jury for their service and excused them from jury duty for 10 years.

He remanded the man in continuing custody and adjourned sentencing to the end of November.

During the trial the 28-year-old complainant, who is also a Polish national told Eanna Mulloy SC (with Fergal Foley BL), prosecuting, that the accused had threatened to cut her boyfriend’s penis off and murder them both before he forced her to perform oral sex on him and had sex with her.

She said she woke up that night after she was hit in the head and she said she could smell something in the air “like someone had just sprayed something”.

She turned on the light and found the accused beating up her boyfriend with a baton.

He then slashed the man with a knife and tied up his arms and legs before he sexually assaulted the woman while forcing her boyfriend to watch.

She said the accused later went into another bedroom with her where he had sex with her after threatening to kill both her and her boyfriend.

“He said he was going to kill my boyfriend first and make me watch. He was going to cut his penis off and then break my neck,” the woman told Mr Mulloy.

“He then said he would maybe kill me first and pack my clothes to make it look like I was leaving my boyfriend and then he would kill him so it would look like he had killed me and then killed himself,” she continued.

She said the accused told her it was also his intention to burn down their house after he had killed them.

He told her he had contacted her friends that morning and told them that they were getting back together so people would think she was planning to leave her boyfriend.

“I did not want to scream or shout because I knew my boyfriend could hear me and there would be nothing he could do about it. I didn’t want to make it any worse for him,” the woman told Mr Mulloy.

She said after he had sex with her the accused lay beside her and kissed and hugged her.

The woman told Mr Mulloy that the accused told her that he had been in the couple’s home a few times unbeknownst to them after he took her house keys from her handbag and made copies of them.

A garda investigating the case told Mr Mulloy that he found charred condoms and a condom box in fire debris less than a mile away from where the rape took place.

Henryk Gorski: A Polish Killer who strangled Shirley was facing 16 charges and had a long criminal history

The man convicted of killing Shirley Finlay was accused of a rape just days before her naked body was discovered, the Belfast Telegraph can reveal.

Henryk Gorski (52), who was yesterday found guilty of battering and strangling the vulnerable 24-year-old in September 2006, had been out on bail facing 16 other charges including rape, false imprisonment, possession of an offensive weapon and threatening to kill a woman four days before Shirley was found murdered. The charges were later dropped because the alleged victim was too afraid to testify against him.

Evil Gorski also had a string of convictions for violence and dishonesty crimes committed in his native Poland. These included assault on a young boy, burglary and theft.

irish arnt all like that they are the minority that come all the racist bull.i have recieced many threats on this topix but it dosnt affect me at all .im only back from poland as i am setting up a sausage factory here in dublin.i had meeting with suppliers an was suprised to hear them say that people returning home were racially abused in ireland money exchanges on jobs salary etc were a lot different to others.personally i have not been riped of.the majority of irish are respectful decent people.hopefully we will have polish sandwitch bars in all major parts of dublin by 2012 simular to the obrien sandwitch bars.an of course i will be equal oppurtunity employer.these dumbs that are racially motivated will get the brunt of the stick they are contrary meaningless fools

IRISH ATTITUDES towards immigrants are hardening as people search for someone to blame for their worsening economic situation, a leading NGO has warned.

Crosscare Migrant Project, which provides information to migrants, has also appealed to the Government to maintain funding for projects to assist immigrants to integrate into Irish life.

Conor Hickey, director of the Crosscare Migrant Project, said yesterday people “rolled out the red carpet for migrants” willing to do the jobs they were not willing to do a few years ago. This carpet is being “rolled back” against a backdrop of rising unemployment and the threat of racism, he said.

Mr Hickey said a poll published in The Irish Times this week, which showed 72 per cent of people want to see the number of non-Irish immigrants here reduced, demonstrated there is a danger of racism rising as people feel the pinch from the recession.

“We have very little to show from the years of the Celtic Tiger. Our roads, transport system and banks are all in a mess but the one thing we have achieved is a vibrant multicultural society that has enriched our society,” he said.

At the launch of a new Crosscare Migrant Project Living in Ireland booklet to help migrants integrate into society, guest speaker Dil Wickremasinghe, who presents the Global Village show on Newstalk, cited a recent example of racism in Ireland.

She said she received a large amount of abusive text messages during a programme dealing with immigration. About 60 per cent of the texts received during a show discussing the call by Mayor of Limerick, Fine Gael councillor Kevin Kiely, for the deportation of EU nationals who fail to secure employment in Ireland, were abusive.

Crosscare Migrant Project is appealing to the Government ahead of next month’s budget to maintain funding for projects aimed at assisting immigrants to integrate into Irish life. The McCarthy report proposed cuts in the area of social integration, including the abolition of the Office of the Minister for Integration and a reduction of 1,000 in the number of language support teachers.

Joe O’Brien, policy officer of Crosscare Migrant Project, said the NGO was very concerned about the proposed cutbacks.
