I've heard and read many stereotypes about Iranians that I list them here:

1)Iranian men treat women like property--- not true.the majority of Iranian men are not at all like that.most are totally ok with their wife working out,and many help with the house works.most Iranian women don't wear headscarves in parties or anywhere other than the streets (where they have to),and most men don't "force" their wife to wear a scarf either.polygamy and temporary marriages, though allowed by law,are considered taboo by most Iranians.
an increasing number of couples get married by dating before marraige.fixed or forced marriages are rare and only happen in rural and among the very uneducated people.

2)Iranian women are not allowed an education and are not allowed to go out alone---false! women in Iran make 63% of university students, are becoming increasingly active among the workforce and there are as many lonely women on Iran's streets as are men! again some women among the rural and backwarded minorities may be strictly monitored on where they go,but I doubt there's even one Iranian woman who doesn't go out alone!(except for political figures)

3)Iranians are terrorist---I wish people would distinguish between Iran's regime and the Iranian people when talking about terrorism.

4)Iranians hate the west esp. the USA--- maybe there are many Iranians who dislike the USA government for its intervention in Iran throughout the last 50 years, but there are not many people who dislike the american 'people'(watch the daily show-behind the veil series for more info on that).and those who come to streets to chant death to USA are the minority and mostly regime puppets.

look I'm Iranian,I loathe iran's regime, they have restricted women's rights in Iran and have ne respect for human rights, but I think there's a lot of misunderstanding about the Iranian people.so I was just curious, which one of these stereotypes do you hold against the Iranians, and how common are they?
share your thoughts about the issue?

Iranian revolution is supported by over 90% of population it is Iranian government that has given the Iranian people there high status in world high literacy rates and advanced society world leaders in nano technology stem cell research, medicine and engineering, do you think under American puppet government you would have these things or free health care and education as well as the large investment in infrastructure?

Do you honestly think under a different government Iran would of become a net exporter of food and electricity? Do you think under a different government Iran would of developed close relations with China and other great society's?

Do you honestly think the west can remove the government without the bloodshed of millions of innocent Iranians?

we're talking about stereotypes here, not the government.you seem to really try hard to spread your positive views about the islamic republic.since I'm Iranian I don't need your info about Iran's situation, which is horrible. so please, kindly, keep the pro-islamic republic views off this thread as it's off topic.I can see for myself, and my opinion is not gonna change, since I'm a citizen here.and I know that 90% of Iranians are anti-regime not pro-regime.so please, give it up.thank you.

If you are Iranian you are expat that's mummy and daddy lost out in revolution. You have clearly not been to Iran in last ten years and only know how to make lie.

It is clear you do not know Iran and that you have sinister objectives.

You are the one that attack the government and start this debate now you know you are wrong so you try to back away, your post started well but you had to put that rubbish at end, there was no need for that if this is indeed thread about stereo types.

I know your game it is Iranian people are good and must be saved from tyrannical regime

You as a sick person to make trouble for Iran

you have issues.as you can see I'm not registered, and topix has located me in "Tehran,Iran".and I'm not wrong,I'm just not debating the government issues on this thread as it's off topic,if you're willing to take the debate you can start another thread Basiji man.
that's my personal view of Iran's regime,so you can't call it "rubbish",no wonder you like Iran's regime, you have no respect for democracy.the reason I put that was that I thought the regime is the reason people have these stereotypes against Iranians.enough with this OT discussion, start a thread if you like it so much.

Iran, world's 8th biggest electricity producer

Iran has exported more than 5.5 billion kilowatt hours (KWh) of electricity to its neighboring countries during the past Iranian calendar year (ending March 20).

The new data shows a 180 percent growth in electricity exports compared with corresponding figures in the previous year.

Iranís electricity network has integrated into power grids of seven neighboring countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Iran also plans to connect its national power network to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Russia, India, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan, Syria and Oman are the new countries that have asked Iran for the supply of electricity.

Iran currently has 51 power plants with a capacity to produce 57,000 megawatts of electricity per day.

Iran had been a net importer of wheat since many years ago, now it has reached a point where wheat exports are possible.

In 2007 Iran exported 400,000 tons of wheat.

Since Russia imposed a ban on its wheat exports following a drought season and wildfires affecting many parts of the country.

Iran has exported 10,000 tons of wheat in the last month alone just to Armenia helping them fill the shortfall from Russia.

iranians are the best in the world..at keeping their spines bowed. persians may have been a great nation, but that was hundreds of years ago. meanwhile, the arabs who invaded their country and slept with their wives and mothers before killing the men, have also imposed islam on persians. since then, whenever arabs say jump, poor iranians humbly ask: how high. pjam seems to be exactly that, an iranian whose father came from the depths of the meccan deserts. now, the arabian gulf is run by arabs, and iranians have lost their country to mahomed, and look where iran is now, the laughingstock of the universe. it is a good thing iran doesn't use that old flag with the lion on it. there's no lion left in iran, all i see are black and green sheep, bleating about how good life is in iran and how beautiful is to starve to death under islam, for mahdi and other foreign gods.

We have many good Persians living here in the Los Angeles area, including some very beautiful Persian women, and they are normal people just like anyone else, they do not fall into the stereotypes that some people think of when they think of Persians. The Persians love the freedom in the USA, they love the clothes, they love music, they love to dance and go to clubs, they love the beaches, they love all of the same things that everyone else loves.
