Obama boosts hopes for free trade - Hawaii News

Full story: Honolulu Star-Bulletin

President Barack Obama and other Asia-Pacific leaders agreed today that next month's much-anticipated climate summit in Denmark will be merely a way station, not the once hoped-for end point, in the search for a worldwide global warming treaty.

He also sounded a sterner note, cautioning that Asia's export-led growth must give way to more balanced strategies.

I don't know why we use the word free trade, when it really isn't anywhere close to what these words mean. It seems to me the proper phrase is "managed trade".

How about free trade for health insurance companies in the US

There are nearly 200 medical insurance companies in the US and yet only a handful are able to pay off enough state legislators such that they can retain their oligopolies.

Hawaii basically has 2, HMSA and Kaiser.

Where's the free trade?

Oh, I know, you can't have it there because it gives Democrats a way to control the ignorant masses.

That's right. I forgot.

I'm not sure how Obama's continued insistence on presenting an attitude of subservience as he continues to bow his way around the world is going to help our growing trade deficit. But I guess it makes as much sense as anything else he ahs done so far...

Did you see the photo of Obama bowing to the Emperor of Japan? Now he will meet with the leader of Myanmar. Don't count on this paper to show that picture either.

lol! So I guess the anti trust protection these companies have is your idea of "free trade." I want that sort of free trade for myself.

Yes. It is disgusting to watch. And the approach is clearly not working as one can read daily the disdain and lack of respect world leaders have for the goof.

You know in the AM, your daily flashlight chasing is particularly pointless.

Your response reveals a complete lack of reading comprehension.

But hey, can't start a day with Ms. Yeah unless she's scouring the Editorial pages for someone who she can attack for not presenting a PhD thesis defense in 45 words or less.

Your are like the human digestive system, a one way projection of waste material.

lol! Yes, I've been told that by those who prefer to have the flashlight off because is scares away the roaches, rats and mice . It's that fear of having the truth known and an expanded way of thining, things that are unfamiliar to you.

It doesn't bother those who are simply interested in the truth. It's a frustrating irritant to those who have no interest in the truth, but a personal agenda instead. And that's why you take things so personally. You take any questioning of your ideas as an attack on you... much like medieval churches.

All you anti-Obama types would rather see Bush's policies in place, creating enemies faster than we could kill them, and driving the economy deep into the dirt.

If not Obama, the option would have been McCain and Palin. Would that joke have made you all happy?

How else would he greet the emperor? Give him a high-five and say "wassup"? Bowing is how Japanese has been greeting each other for centuries.

In case no one noticed, America is heavily outnumbered by the rest of the world. This country is heavily dependent upon a lot of other countries and we have to get along with all of them. To think we can just bully the rest of the world is an arrogant, ego-centric attitude that would make the US the center of terrorist attacks, and definitely lead to this country's downfall.

Get a clue, Obama's actions speak way louder than his words, and his actions, so far have been as if he is trying to be Bush junior:

* no troops have been removed from Iraq, despite his campaign promises

* no additional troops have been sent to Afghanistan, despite his campaign promises

* The Justice Department invoked the state secrets privilege recently (Oct 30) to try to stop a lawsuit over Bush-era wiretapping – the first time the Obama administration has done so under its new policy on such cases. Where is the indignation from the left that existed when Bush administered the original policy?

* President Barack Obama on Saturday urged Congress to hold off on any investigation of the Fort Hood rampage. hmmm, what could possibly motivate him to not want to expose the truth about a muslim assassin?

Interesting how you all keep pointing at what might have been, instead of defending what is. And yes, I would prefer McCain-Palin to what currently sits in a pile on the carpet in the Whitehouse.

In case you haven't noticed, Obama isn't Japanese, probably not American either, but others can debate that elsewhere). Direct eye contact and a firm handshake is how American leaders show respect for and greet other world leaders.

So Americans should just do things the American way? No matter where they are?

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Virgo

This is not a day for sitting still if you can possibly avoid it because it will be a fast track to bad temper and sharp-tongued outbursts. Have plenty of short breaks, go for lots of walks or work up a sweat in the gym in your lunch-hour. If you're driving, keep an eye on the speedometer because it will be very tempting to go too fast and you'll be furious if you're caught.
