Ok, I have alot to say here so here goes.
I am 20 and live in the states. At the moment I work as a hospital mechanic for a string of health systems jumping back and forth hospital to hospital working on boilers, chillers, air conditioning systems, water/plumbing systems. I set up preventative maintenance systems and help with a bit of networking and I have my COMPTIA A+ certifications in networking. I make about 40,000 a year.
Now for the second part, I want to move to iceland. Ever since I was a small child I have felt an odd pull or yearning to come to iceland. As far as unemployment problems and things like that I am completely unconcerned. I am willing to do anything that it takes to get there, build my own boat and paddle my way if I must but I was wondering how I would even go about doing it? I have no idea of international laws and stuff, I don't know about passports or any of that. I have never travelled out of country so I feel like an idiot when it comes to any of it. My fathers side of the family is from Iceland. Supposedly,(I use that word because I cannot attest to the accuracy of the statements) our family came from Eskifjorur. It has been my dream to come there for as far back as I can remember. Therefore, I have been trying to find a way to move over there, somewhere (no idea where), and get a job and finish my days in Iceland. Strange enough, though I am not from there, never stepped foot on the soil, I feel an odd sort of home sickness constantly like there is a hole missing and I need to be there to fill it. Just to be in the land of my forefathers and its beauty seems like bliss to me.
Another reason I wish to come there is because of my morals. America has no sense of community anymore. Everyone has sort of become isolated to their own little worlds due to technological advances (not that there is anything wrong with technology, just the dependence on it.) I just feel out of place here. So here was my question, "What are my chances of this happening" and if it is possible, "What paperwork would I need to get, how would I go about finding jobs and living situation?" Haha I know thats alot to ask but hey, how can i get answers other than ask?

Dear friend
Your spelling of the town eskifjrur is correct. if you look at the Icelandic spelling you will find two letters in there you probably never heard of.()()()and () just to name a few. I dont know where you live but if you dad was Icelandic your history is here and will allays. You sound like a nice kid. If you go to a local library you can find plenty on Iceland. If you do decide to come here first start with a 3 month visit. You will need a passport. any travel agency can inform you what kind of travel documents you will need. If you need more info you are welcome to e-mail me and I wiil be glad to assist you in any way I can.

Runar.
