How many times do Cantonese have to say that Northern Chinese people are behind in everything when it comes to MODERN CULTURE? Just everything about them when it comes to food, style, fashion, music, wealth, and jobs. They seem to be stuck in the old ways like it is still in the ancient time. I have several Northerners in my company who are passive, seem like they have no clue about what's going on around them.

Cantonese characteristics: dark, short, broad nose, big and long teeth, bad skin condition, weird facial structures, rough, speaking a really rough language with almost Vietnamese accent, always wearing dark-coloured clothings due to their darker complexion, the more they drink their "nutritious" soup..the more they look like monkey, they try to become fairer (by putting more ingredients into their soup) they are still that dark.

Good example, look at Miss Hong Kong contestants, alot of them are so ugly with all those characteristics mentioned above.

Cantonese are very diligent worker coz traditionally they grew up in very harsh environment. They simply gotta survive, so they gotta work harder. That's why Cantonese and Hokkien women work non-stop at home, cooking, cleaning, cooking soup all day long. Have you ever seen women from cities like Shanghai and Beijing and other cities working like maid??? They spend more time living like gentle ladies.

Hongkie singers "were" popular in the Mainland because those singers were picked out of so many people in Hong Kong. So statiscally they can not represent all Cantonese.

I'm not sure about the Shanghai, Su-Zhou, Hangzhou area, but if Cantonese think that Northern Chinese were mixed with Mongolian and Korean, then I think the Northern Chinese descendants are so much more better off because Cantonese's ancestors include inferior people from South East Asian countries.

I was trying to look up common stereotypes of the cantonese and i stumble on this.. i just wanna put in my two cents worth. I am not from hongkong or guangdong so I think I am more objective? haha.. well, it is kinda amusing that we are in this debate because of a post that everyone educated will know is extremely biased and complete nonsense. I think elevating one's status need not incorporate putting down another's.

seriously people, it comes down to looks? I am appalled...beauty is in the eye of the beholder. how can we judge who is ugly or beautiful? ur worlds are pretty limited huh... hahaha.. yes, i agree with ROTFLOLing that it comes down to education, but i wanna add also location, timing and opportunities, like everything else in life =)

I would love to acknowledge that cantonese is the best group of people ever but the northerners are pretty good too. Cantonese cook the best food in the world, but northerners gave us steamboats and dumplings. and come on, we were all barbarians before we were educated and if we get any higher education, we would not spend our limited time on earth being hostile.. really.. sad to say i dun think cantonese are the best looking people in the world, but hey, we chinese are pretty ugly as a whole but i say who cares, we have the biggest population in the world anyway.

Yeah, I'm now living in SEA (South East Asia), 2nd generations, so what? but genetically I am 100% Chinese, my ancestors came from Shaanxi, of Hans mixed with Mongols and Manchus, then moved to Hangzhou then moved here in SEA, my grandmother's family was from Guangzhou (Cantonese). Guangdong is composed by migrants from north china to find a job. And HK people more and more go to mainland to do business (for instance to Shanghai). Talking about North and South differences is almost over since China is changing so fast.
From my point of view, I have seen pretty people both in north and south China. haha
