Al, thank you! When the currency was devalued or something like that, things went backward. As for VAT it's the British system, but I know a Guyanese of a wealthy status, retired from Revenue Canada, and joined the circus to set up VAT in Guyana. He returned a year later with a "clean conscience" yea right!! I would never speak to that person again. Yes I found out he got his big break in Canada by backstabbing a "coloured Guyanese" with more qualifications and seniority than him. that how the wicked survive.

VAT in Guyana is 16% on almost anything you buy...they got a list of food items and pencil erasers and a few other non.sense that are VAT free...they all have clean consciences that's why they don't say how much they making from VAT
the govt sends revenue men to almost every event to check ticket sales etc. which is a good thing...but not one case has ever been brought against the true gangsters, smugglers and cocaine dealers to reveal the source of their wealth...and there are many many many
jagdeo is building a mansion as we speak...reportedly worth 60 million GY dollars [US300,000] from a man who inherited nothing and makes $2000US per month

the wicked know nothing but wickedness but they always think they fooling the world. you can fool some people some of the time...many guyanese who lived overseas and are friend of those in power come to Guyana and make a killing on the backs of the poor and call it progress...they never say why more people are leaving today and fighting to leave more than they did under the mad PNC

Al gangsters, smugglers, dealers prostitution and illegal gambelling was going on a long, long time before you and I were born in Guyana, during the WWW1 and WW11. Some of the Godfathers have passed away, bodies rotting in nice tombs in Georgetown cemetary, and souls burning in hell and the next generation very wealthy and respectable politicians, businessmen etc, Don't let the simple shop frontwindow fool you, the older the business the more guilty they are.

And the saga continues in Canada, same old story supporting municipal Guyanese or other candidates, financing various businesses and launching a new one set to conquer the globe. Stay tuned I'll let you know how it goes.

A US300K house is affordable with a US2K income per month, there is something called mortgage. Any self respecting drugs dealers home costs more than that. This is the price for an average family home here. Look on the Brightside Jagdeo is not behaving like most presidents in Africa who have build for themselves multi million US dollars homes while their people was being fed by international aids organisations. I live in a land of preachers, we are good at lecturing each other and it has rubbed off on me. Guyana seems to be the land of judges & persecutors. You are guilty in advance. It would be more entertaining if there were some jurors for they will need to have facts & figures from both parties before giving judgement. We are right they are wrong is deeply entrenched where conflict between races, nations, religion etc is long standing.
Pray tell why are more people leaving now. Other nations are speaking about the improvements and ofcourse the drugs related crimes in Guyana.

al we have some wealthy Guyanese living here who adopted villages in India after the Tsunami 2004. Many Guyana villages still fetching water and how much done? THe same people were begging for funds after the floods in Guyana. There's a Jamaican Canadian milti- millionair Michael Lee -Chin who donated millions to improve Kingston Jamaica and brought the bank of Jamaica. A rich brother helping people here and in his country. What are filthy rich Guyanese doing, sitting on their asses.

it's their loot i guess they can do with it what they want...those clowns for the most part come back to guyana to loot as much as they can and ride around in their fancy cars
i was caught up in a road block on sunday on the west bank as some women took logs, and sticks and rocks and zinc sheets and blocked the road...the village has been without water for 17 months...read that again 17 MONTHS!! a tractor comes by and gives them water which they have to sign for but some of the people in the village, most of whom happen to be black in this one section had not gotten the tractor for five days so they took to the streets...La Grange is one of the biggest villages in Guyana and there is some rackets going on as the govt claims to have spent quite a few tens of millions on a new well, which they dug at least 3 times...the site is now clean and the village still has no water.
after two hours a tractor miraculously fell from teh sky with you guessed it, manna. strike that water
the comments from those caught in their cars went like this:'move y'all sc*&t off de f*^%in& road 'fore we beat y'all sc*&t up' et cetera et cetera
a few people supported the women...this went on from about one to three [will post more details and photos on propaganda press]
but that's life in Guyana...no one from Guyana Water Inc. came. i mean it's sunday you can't expect them to come out and the sun was hot too
a few armed policemen showed up to hold the line and let the little people know they can be killed for protesting for water in the land of many waters...cause they will shoot if told by the govt...make no doubt about that

you either make things better and livable or the people will revolt...it's the same thing anywhere you go on the globe...humans can only take so much, especially when they see how the rulers and the rich and powerful are living

I would not kick their initiative to help others but it would be helpful if they can put the same effort in helping their own countrymen. BTW the caste system was not about colour ( this is a British explanation) but with profession. What is not commonly know there are villages in India where Africans have lived for centuries. You will be surprised to see Indian African women wearing sari, speaking the language and worshiping the Hindu way. There was even an African who was King (maharaja)in India. Another thing Vex donít hold a persons stupidity against them, if they knew better they would behave better. In other words feel sorry for them for they donít know where they belong. In other words they are lost. Lets concentrate on what we can do to help the water situation. Any ideas? I have one.

Al I would like you to educate me about the water situation. Can get access to the necessary documentations? I need to know what the infrastructure is like what was, whatís there and whatís needed. Or could you refer me to the responsible organisations. Our crown prince is very involved in global water management. Singapore have booked remarkable results in its water management programme.

Down in the street there is violence
And a lots of work to be done
No place to hang out our washing
And I can't blame all on the sun, oh no

CHORUS:
We gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
And then we'll take it higher
Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
And then we'll take it higher

Workin' so hard like a soldier
Can't afford a thing on TV
Deep in my heart I'm a warrior
Can't get food for them kid, good God

CHORUS

Oh no...
Oh no...
Oh no...
Oh no...

CHORUS

Who is to blame in one country
Never can get to the one
Dealin' in multiplication
And they still can't feed everyone, oh no

CHORUS

Out in the street...
Out in the street...
Out in the playground...
In the dark side of town...

CHORUS

Rock it in the daytime
Rock it in the night ...

Electric Avenue by Eddie Grant

i can't get you information on what takes place at these places as there is no freedom of info law in Guyana..they give it to you if they want or they just tell you to get lost
these are the people you need to talk to http://www.gwiguyana.com/index.html whether the info they give you is correct or not, that's another matter...the company was run by a gangster Karran Singh who was run out of town when a UK company was paid by the govt of Guyana to run it [plenty racketeering] Karran was asked to leave by world bank or imf...he got transferred to world cup stadium building chief...he screwed that up too...the Brits weren't making as much loot as they think they should and gave the company back to the govt...world cup came and went and guess who was rehired as head of gwi now that the plunderers dont want it no more....and the position was never announced publicly as being available...i'll give you a clue k.s

al why do people have to sign for water??? 17 months is a long wait before blocking the road, what is the opposition parties doing? no wonder people can't stand it anymore especially women and children, what kind of life is this in Eldorado. Motorists swearing like they don't care that's disgusting. Can you tell me if these issues are debated in parliament? It's cruel when people live in a country where they know others like the elderly, disabled and the poor suffer and they don't care to object and join in the struggle for a better existence. These people should be getting out of their fansy cars and demand accountability. Where is love your neighbour as yourself?

the people have to sign for the water cause it comes by a man who is paid be the water people to carry water so they have to sign saying they got two buckets or whatever is their quota
opposition parties aren't doing much on these issues...huge session of parliament yesterday discussing some UK money the Queen and her minions are giving for policing work..may be a loan...not sure..didn't read the fine print
...and there were a million SUVs parked outside parliament as per usual...i'll take a pic next sitting
it's a talk shop, the opposition not too long sided with the govt and they all got pay raises
