Greece to scrap conscription in navy, airforce
Associated Press
2009-11-06 10:25 PM

Greece's Defense Ministry says it will scrap mandatory service in the navy and airforce in 2012 following defense spending cuts.

Defense Minister Evangelos Venizelos said Friday that during the transition these two branches of the armed forces will seek conscripts with specialist skills, including doctors and chemical engineers.

Military service in Greece is compulsory for all men aged between 18 and 45. A nine-month mandatory service will remain for the army.

In recent years, Greece's armed forces have become increasingly reliant on professional recruits.

Friday's measures were announced a day after defense spending cuts worth ⁈llion ($738 million) were revealed as part of the 2010 state budget.

We will cut all defense expenses as EU is integrating and offers EURO-ARMY.
And we will keep subhumans from Fyrom and turkey permanently out of EU:)

After some decades maybe Fyrom learns not to steal and then we can discuss about it.:) Turkey is a bad influence for Fyrom.:)

EU and USA already expressed their discontent of Yunanistan unpaid debt. Do you think they will give more money?

I don't think so:

The "Hellenic" Navy loses its submarine capability within the next decade following the collapse of two submarine procurement and upgrade contracts with German shipbuilder ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS).

The company announced the CANCELLATION of the contracts on 22 September; they include the construction of four Papanikolis-class (Type 214) submarines and the modernisation of three Type 209 boats for the navy.

Outstanding payments on both contracts total EUR524 million (USD775.3 million), including EUR300 million owed to TKMS' Greek subsidiary, Hellenic Shipyards (HSY).

Despite negotiations over the past two years, TKMS stated that NO SOLUTION has been found to secure payments for the submarines and consequently Yunanistan IS IN DEFAULT of its contractual obligations.

Greek Navy same as Air force, turns slowly strictly pro.Reservists will be used only in land forces. That's the plan. You are misleading by trying to present it wrong.

Poor monkeydonian.Greece ordered 4 submarines, and had paid in advance the 80% of them. However one of them had balance problems. Also it was leaving traces while moving in the deep. There was a dispute on this matter. We were not born yesterday same as we don't have one of the best navies accidentally,to buy trash cans. You can have it if you want, but as far as i know you can't afford a river fish boat. However i hear that Poland agreed to take this submarine.Thyssen uses this incident to terminate it's business in Greece. You know how much sells the shipyards that it owns? One Euro!!!On the condition the new investor takes it's debts,800 mil Euros!I wonder why since it's a company that even a clown like you knows. If you are really interested in truth, surch for the detail within. Then you can proudly self declare your self as Filip the II King of Monkeydonian Slavs...

Me? I will not dare!

But there's who will:

Monday, October 12th, 2009

The European Commission is bringing Greece to the European Court of Justice for its failure to comply with European rules on freedom of establishment for operators in the road transport and fuel marketing sectors.

The Commission considers that Greece has failed to respect its obligation under the Treaty by restricting the registration of public use vehicles and private tankers, and by introducing minimum tariffs for transportation services.
