Greetings Sorry to bring this up there has been a rash of African women in America opening up these high priced braiding salons targeted toward African American women. However when you go there, they are very rude, they talk $hit and seem to really hate on every African American woman they see. I believe the problem is due the the African men when they come to the US. I feel once they get a wif of African American woman sexuality they go crazy and African women cant stand it.

No need to be so anxious. I do agree. When ever I come across African women, they stare, they laugh and talk in their language, their men always stare and spark up a conversation even if they have a wife. I feel alot of African men who come to the Americas pick up their standard when they come across African American women. So the pressure the African woman has is not easy. Trying to keep up with black women is not easy.

I have a hard time believing that a lot of people are jealous of us. It shouldn't be that way... Mostly Nigerians have braided my hair, and we have a good time watching movies, laughing, talking... no jealousy there... I know that people hate us for many reasons, though. It must be the media... lol

I had a horrible experience when I went to a braiding salon in North MInneapolis MN. I made the appointment and the stylest was rude. Soon as she saw I was AA, she sighed real loudly and started combing my hair REAL HARD!!. For the first time in my 38 years I cried cause she comed my hair so damn hard.
I have found African women to be rude and inconsiderate. I have made a decision that when it comes to my hair,I refuse to let another African women in my hair unless she has a nice attitude. It is that serious. I am having a hard time finding that since the braid salons I have come accross were moneyhungry and rude

You know what? I cant BELIEVE people are in here posting stupid sh!t like this. I mean while african women and AA women are fighting....everyone else is laughing at us. This needs to STOP. We are the same people. Living in two different countries means NOTHING. AA descended from Africans so there should be NO type of discrepancy among us.This needs to STOP

YOU ARE ALL A DISGRACE TO MOTHER AFRICA. THERE IS NO NEED FOR THIS SQUABBLE. LADIES, IF YOU HAVE A STYLE AND KNOW HOW TO PRESENT YOURSELVES, LOOK GOOD AND KEEP UP A GOOD SPIRIT, THERE WILL BE NO DIFFERENCE AND YOU WILL ALL BE LOVED BY AFRICAN MEN . GOOD LUCK.

I read the comments on this blog and I have to say that I have not had the same experiences that some of these women have had when going to an African braid shop. The only experience I have had is when I made an appointment I still have to wait for someone esle to come and do my hair. Now I have found a lady who does hair in her home and I'm paying less than going to a shop.(Example a bob cost $150 at a braid shop and I have paid that before. My current braider did the first bob for $120 now she is giving me a $10 discount. That's a saving of $40. I'm sure I'm getting a discount because I've been going to her for a while.
She speaks French to her daughter and husband and she talks to me in english. I have never had a bad experience with her and as long as she is braiding hair I will continue to go to her.(Or until I have the patience to watch a DVD and learn how to do it myself). And yes DVDs are out there demostrating how to do all kinds of braids/weaves, etc.
And to make a point about Africans coming to the US and opening up braid shops; it's no different than the Koreans opening up beauty supply stores. They see a market that is not being dominated by anyone so they take advantage of the opportunity. But I will say there are a lot of AA women in the US that can braid.(Some years back before the African braid shops, at least where I live, I used to go to an AA woman to get my hair braided and she could get down on some braids. She was only charging me and $75 for a french roll and bob). And now they want to charge the same price as the African braiders. Honestly, I have no problem going to an AA braider but I'm not going to pay that amount of money when the braid job is not what I expect.
I think it's immature that people have to start things like one person is jealous of another. If if you want to learn something, get a DVD, read about it, and do it. Then you can open your own braid shop.

Im Native & African American..and I have a normal brownish complextion..and my skin turns red while in the sun...and thick long black hair with streaks of bronze...im just a simple jeans..and tshirt kinda gal from good ole' Georgia.. Ive never ran into any African women here in my southeastern GA area. But, when I visited Chicago last summer.. My white cousin (by marriage) Jessica and I were walking through one the Chicago Navy Pier's food courts..laughing and having a good time..and as we passed by a group of African women sitting.. dressed in African styled clothing..chatting.. they all turned and gave Jessica an evil look then looked at me.. I smiled at them and wave but they rolled their eyes and smacked their lips and started talking in their language and pointing at Jessica and I rudely. I felt so sad.. because I didnt know what I had done wrong. Was it the way that I looked and dressed or was it because I was walking with my cousin???

We are all Black women and should respect and support each other. I am a Black American women and I've only been disrespected by an African women one time in my live. The rest of them were very gracious and kind. What they say about us behind our back should stay there. But in public show love, respect and communicate.
