Aha haaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I am very surprised a JERSEY-ITE would even KNOW about the word "ETIQUETTE", let alone what it means...go back to your exit, and read the Newark Star Ledger. When you come to L.I>, make SURE you drive 50 mph in the left lane...

The main contributing factor is that everyone feels they're entitled becasue they're paying so much for the privelege of flying.
"I spent $400 for this ticket, I'm getting all I can out of it."
In my experience, the ones that seem to be the most demanding and least pleasant are elderly people who travel. Traveling by plane is not conducive to people in their later years and they act like they're in their own living rooms.

The night before I fly, I eat chili with beans and onions, eat a side dish of broccoli, and drink 4 beers.

Traveling by plane is not conducive to people in their later years and they act like they're in their own living rooms. Families and young adults are the same way.I've been asked to move for a family that apparently did not bother requesting seats together, and had an overnight flight to Europe ruined by a crying baby. And last year,on a filled flight,I was forced to sit behind a young man who rudely leaned his seat back too far and refused to move it because there were no other available seats.

Families are the worst - especially the ones that won't control their children. They let them run in the aisles, kick people's seats in front of them, use "outdoor" voices in a freaking plane. Please if you aren't a good parent, take a bus!

I avoid Jet Blue whenever possible - because the patrons are just horrible.
I fly almost every week so I upgrade when I can and I wear noise cancelling headphones. I ignore everyone around me - but am cordial when spoken to.
When the flight attendents tell you to sit - SIT, when they ask you to shut off your cell phone - SHUT OFF YOUR CELL PHONE.
I was on Jet Blue to Orlando two weeks ago 7:30 PM - over tired kid in the seats across the isle - screamed for 75% of the flight. The mother ignored her. This is why people are uncivil to eachother.
It is easy for this "travel writer" to tell everyone how to act and it is easy when you are on vacation once or twice a year, but when you fly every week - IT JUST SUCKS!

I like the dads that like to pretend those aren't their kidds, screaming like banshees. They gaze off into space, contemplating Deep Thoughts, while Jr. and Little Missy destroy the remaining sanity of the other passengers.

Ah yes, I too recall the days when flying was still special. Pan Am, TWA, Eastern and American Airlines. Jacket and tie, meals served even on shorter flights. And everyone tried to be polite. These days Southwest et al are the Greyhounds of the skies. Some passengers are foul-mouthed cretins, but others are kindly folks of limited means taking advantage of quick and cheap transportation. Flying cheap airlines would be much more pleasnant for everyone if more of us took the "high road" or at least tried to. Is there something in LI water that makes people here so boorish?

My favorites are as follows
1) Loud bluetooth guy in the boarding area.
2) Grab my seat and pull on it so you can pull your fat ass out of the seat guy.
3) Drop a duece guy on a hour flight
4) Get off the plane and stop right in the walkway to figure out where you need to go guy

First off you get what you pay for, so purchase a Jet Blue Ticket for 100 bucks so you can sit next to the red neck fart blower. Along with him is his family that have a 1 year old on their lap because a ticket to seat im was too expensive. Next thing you know he's puking orange tang while hanging over the father shoulder wanting to see hats going on behind him onto the people behind him. Do you think you'de hear an "IM SORRY" No you hear laughter and a voice saying "Told you you should not have given thatto him" So notthkid is fast asleep while once agan draped oer Daddys shoulder whe I reach into my carry-n andpul out a rubber band,( yes silent but a wake up call ) aim it for the kids hand right at the tip of his fingers as they dangle onto my lap tray. Wack!, the kids wakes up screaming and the parents as dumb as they are think the kid bit his own fingers while sleeping. Mean while I et a pat on the back from the passenger in the seat next to me saying GOOD ONE!. The point here; USE A CONDOM Flight 1668 from Denver to Islip on the 12th arrived at Islip a 10:40
