I was stationed in Hanau on 2 different occasions. 1st time was with 26th S&S Co on Pioneer. I was a mechanic in the Motorpool. CPT Mad Max Frenzel was the CO and was responsible for the Best of the Rest slogan on the bay doors. That was like 1981 to 1984 I beleive.
2nd time I was stationed with 71st Ord for a short time before moving to the 53rd HMSC as the motor sergeant. After 53rd deactivated I moved to 8th MT BN S4 as the batallion motor sergeant. During that time it changed to the 18th CSB. I worked with a lot of good people during that time and miss the Gyro's from the little stand there in Grossauheim and of course the Binding bier.... not so much the Licher bier though. Not fun holding the ankles of someone doing situps during pt after a night of licher bier.....!
I was there in the 81st at the same time I had a good friend Sgt Lee Sears was the motor sergeant for you guys he had one nice customized van we used to swap cars on the weekend.

I was stationed in Hanau 1985 thru 1987. Turned 21 over there right before I came back State side. Worked at the Motor Pool at Wolfgang, right behind the 2 and 4 Warehouse. Best times of my life, love Germany, thought it was a beautiful Country with mostly nice people. Public transportation was awesome, I had a car and the Autobaun was neat. Was there when the Deuchtmark hit it highest and then hit its lowest right before I left. My First Sergeant was always bragging about how much money he was making on the dollar, he was a hoot! Would so love to find some of my friends that I made over there, Mike Kilgore, Karla Taylor, Holly Law, Rueben Castillo, always think of them and wonder where they are. Always wanted to go back to Germany and take my girls there to see where I worked and became a young woman.

On Facebook is US Army in Hanau Germany. Pics and info about what's going on there. We were stationed there from 2006 until closing. It was a very sad experience to literally watch the closing occur around you.

Hi Melanie, I arrived at Hessen-Homberg in 77 with 45th Medical Battalion. Last of the official WAC's! out of McClelland AL.
Definitely an interesting place! We didn't stay long at Hutier. Eventually moved to Pioneer Kaserne once they made the barracks co-ed.

I started off in 1970 at 516th Engineer co on Pioneer. I got sent there right after I left Nam.
One world to another I spent a total of 11 1/2years in Germany. Its Nice to see that people enjoyed their tour in Germany. There is a lot of folks that will never have the chance to see other lands of the world. I too am sad that the place looks so bad now. We took a lot of pride in making the place we called home away from stand tall! I was in the 516th from 1970-1974,and then started playing with nukes in the 567th engineer company at Francois, 1975-1978,1979-1983.We were able to work with all Nato Forces. Bless you all!!!

they started on Hutier way in the back where they had some bombed out buildings. We used to have hayrides there and found some old bomb casings that were duds my father called them. The races got to big for Hutier and moved to Fliegerhorst. I definately remember going to them both as a child in my teens with my parents.

Wow.. Its really great reading these posts. I lived in Fliegerhorst from 1974-1978, and have wonderful memories. My Dad was 1st Sgt for awhile with 122 Maintenance Batallion Co B. He also worked at the NCO club on post. I remember going to the races. What great memories. I am going back to Germany for a visit and was wondering if there is any access to the post.. just want to take a drive down memory lane.

the last time I was home they were all locked up. I had to take pictures through locked gates. The only ones that were open was Hessen Homburg and Francois. I think we got to go on Hutier too but not all of it. I didn't get to go in the back where the bowling alley was.
