Hey Dorothea - thanks for one heck of a laugh - I was expecting a pic of Tina and Fentan.... that was great...
Actually I've probaby have seen you. Do you know whatever happened to them or Dixie?? You must have also known Roco and Joe as well then... As far as I've seen, other then Fliegerdump, nothing has started on any Kaserne, other than the r & G being wiped away and possibly the extension of the nukem place onto Wolfgang.
You can find all those people on facebook ...there is a Rod & Gun Hanau site....

I started this thread in Nov 08 in hopes of hearing from anyone who served in the Hanau area having information concerning the Pioneer Kaserne closing. I never dreamed we would see so many comments from so many people from the 1950's until it's closing. Hearing from the local Germans also warmed my heart. We miss you all as well. Thank you all for sharing your memories. I hope to see you in Hanau again soon. I will be watching for more updates as to what is happening to the Kaserne.
It was a good ides.Looks like this site brings back many memories of the good old days....:-)

I was stationed in Hanau Germany with the Headquarters and Headquarters company 85th Maint Battalion Pioneer Kaserne March of 1971 thru December of 1972. I had some of the best times of my life while stationed there! I have had many memories over the years but just never got back before they closed it down. I would like to converse with anyone who might have been with the 85th Maint Battalion around that time. There was a small pizza place just down the road from the Kaserne where we spent alot of time at. The German (Bach) Dark beer was sooooo wonderful!!
I was stationed with HHC, 85th from 1970 to 1972. I worked for Cpt Wong in the Material Office and also operated an NCR 500 Computer down in the motor pool area. I remember the Pizza place in Wolfgang very well and the dark haired gal that worked there. I lived on Wolgangstrasse in Wolfgang. I remember the La Boheme club downtown.

I drove High Priority parts and supplies in either a 5 ton tractor trailer or a Deuce and a half. I picked them up from the Chinook Helicopters that would land at Fliegelhorst(Spelling?) and deliver them throughout the different Army bases surrounding the Frankfurt area. I had an Apartment in the little community by Tony's Pizza place I forget what it was called. I have no complaints what so ever as I really enjoyed the duty and the freedom that came with it. My only regret is that I never took the time to go back there for a visit over the years.

Any of you guys out there?

Bill Aldridge just came to my wedding in April. How about Heinlein, Bob Speakman, Joe Lookingbill, Joe Donaho, Paul Rynders, John Galloway (Red)

We were an Aviation maintenance company and our C.O. was Raymond L. Doucette or Uncle Ray.

I was with 574th PSC, 1974-1978, Pers. Mgmt. Worked for SFC Bunn. Loved Tony's and considered SGM Dawkins a great friend! The man had a heart of gold! Let's see who else I remember, Eve Wojcik, Perry Broadnaux, Ron Lenker, 1SG Long, Michael Bransn, Sheila, Elphie, Tony Gatlin, Bruce Stevens, Frank & Marge Hudson, the Anderson's, Chub, Cheryl and Phil getting married, SOOO many more. What a great time in my life. I keep wanting to go back and see it again, but it will never be the same. So Bill, where did you work? I seem to remember your name. Tall, thin, blonde I think.(If not, not as young as I once was LOL). What a pleasure it is to read something from someone who was there and who remembers our 'gentle giant' with fondness!
