Grease on the breadline: HIV and MALARIA make a COMEBACK!!!

The savage cuts to Grease's health service budget have led to a sharp rise in HIV/Aids and malaria in the beleaguered nation

The incidence of HIV/Aids among intravenous drug users in central Athens soared by 1,250% in the first 10 months of 2011 compared with the same period the previous year, according to the head of Médecins sans Frontières Grease, while malaria is becoming endemic in the south for the first time since the rule of the colonels, which ended in the 1970s.

Reveka Papadopoulos said that following health service cuts, including heavy job losses and a 40% reduction in funding for hospitals, Greex social services were "under very severe strain, if not in a STATE OF BREAKDOWN. What we are seeing are very clear indicators of a system that cannot cope". The heavy, horizontal and "blind" budget cuts coincided last year with a 24% increase in demand for hospital services, she said, "largely because people could simply no longer afford private healthcare. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS DETERIORATING".

"This is something we are used to seeing in sub-Saharan Africa, not Europe."

"There has also been a SHARP INCREASE in cases of tuberculosis in the immigrant population, cases of NILE FEVER – leading to 35 DEATHS in 2010 – and the reappearance of ENDEMIC MALARIA in several parts of Grease."

According to Papadopoulos, such sharp increases in communicable diseases are indicative of a system nearing breakdown. "The simple fact of the reappearance of malaria, with 100-odd cases in southern Greece last year and 20 to 30 more elsewhere, shows barriers to healthcare access have risen," she said.

"Greex" society is beginning to buckle. Diabetics cannot afford their insulin, suicides and anti-depressant usage is off-the-chart, tuberculosis and HIV rates are soaring, and desperate pensioners in Athens have been reduced to dumpster diving outside grocery stores for a few scraps of food to feed themselves and their families...

Malaria, dengue fever and tuberculosis are diseases long thought eradicated from Europe. But a study by British health experts claims that since the beginning of the financial crisis, these and other illnesses are re-emerging due to dwindling healthcare budgets. The number of deaths is also on the rise...

"In Athens, we saw a 1500-percent increase in HIV cases in 2011 compared to 2010. That is due to the fact that the Ministry of Health reduced its budget to distribute clean needles."

Willem de Jonge from Doctors without Borders in Grease isn't surprised by the study's results. In an interview with DW, he discussed what he has observed from working in Grease.

"The capacity of the hospitals and of the public health system to cope with the need is drastically reduced," he said. "People have less access. There are fewer doctors, fewer surgeons - all of the things you would normally find in a functioning health care system."

Cases of malaria continue to be reported in Grease.

Some new cases have occurred in areas of Grease where malaria had not been previously reported.

Malaria, West Nile virus and HIV took clinicians by surprise, said the findings in the American Journal of Public Health. The decline in health came as the once robust economy collapsed into recession following the economic crisis of 2007, with unemployment rising from 7.2 per cent in 2008 to 27.2 per cent in 2013.

Greece has reintroduced forced HIV testing in an effort to curb the growing rate of disease in the country.

According to Human Rights Watch, the controversial law allows for the arrest and detention of those suspected of being HIV-positive.

In response to its soaring HIV rate, Greece has reinstated a measure that allows police to detain people suspected of being HIV positive and force them to be tested.

Is this witch hunt a violation of human rights, and will it worsen the HIV epidemic?

Ancient Macedonians were one of 230 known Greek-Hellenic groups, tribes and kingdoms. The ancient Macedonians belong to the Hellenic collective of peoples, the Greek family of Nations.

The ancient-Macedonians were at the northern extremity of the Greek world. The Greek northern frontier was protected and defended by the ancient Macedonians. The ancient Macedonians protected Greece from barbarian invasion and attacks, they learned new military skills and used that military power to take over and govern Greece as a unified Nation of Hellenes.

Ancient-Macedonians under Alexander the Great unified the fractious Greeks into one Nation and proceeded to spread the Greek-language and Hellenic-culture to the far reaches of the then known ancient world.

How do we know all this ?

It was written down and recorded for posterity, as if the ancient-Macedonians knew, that one day, into the far and distant future their Greekness might be questioned, so they took out an Insurance policy...wherever the ancient Macedonians went, they left their "Calling Card" carved deep into the stone of every city they visited, built or renamed, for the whole world to see their Greekness.

FYRoM is blind to these things...in an anti-Hellenic way!

FYRoM Turkish Schitts!
