Assuming that you, unlike most of us americans, do not view wealth as a finite measure of human satisfaction, and that you not only give precedence to matters of health, well-being, political stability, security, climate, job security, political freedom, and gender equality, but also take into account freedom, family, safety, and community life, it is my belief that you will find that there is so much more to life than the trivial ("which celebrity is dating whom" -Siri) and materialistic ("Looking good and wearing the right clothes" -Siri) issues that are so vigilantly embedded in our culture today. With that being said, I agree with Siri. We americans are so concerned with "capital success" and "social status" that we lose sight of what truly matters. I have noticed that we "live to work" whereas most other countries "work to live". Dont get me wrong, I love America and what it represents, that's why i joined the Marine Corps 8 years ago; however, it would be both ignorant and arrogant to think that America is the best country to live in, and that European Countries such as France cannot give us a run for our "money". Sometimes all it takes is a little "wine and cheese" to realize...c'est la vie.

If you get to talk with them,the answer is no.It's justthe mutual lack of communication .I left Ca for almost 30 years and do notregret a bit.Still, the USA is the land of opportunities .

Dont forget that the middle class in France lives in a home and has about the equivalent a amount of things that out people at the poverty level here in America. The size of the home and the ownership of an automobile and other major appliances in the home is about the same in these groups. Lets just say things in France are a little more compact in space to live in.

I've been living in France for over 12 yrs now. It's VERY expensive. But, who cares? The social system rocks, I love the culture, Paris is an awesome city to live near, and the food...well..I've gained a few pounds! How do they stay so skinny?

If we were living in the USA on what we make in France, we'd be living in a McMansion. But, then I wouldn't be able to get pain au chocolat whenever I wanted!

Are you doing a caricature of someone who has never lived anywhere else but the USA explaining to people that live in a certain country...what life is like there? Because if that is the case then it's hysterical. But, if you are saying this...seriously...Then I'm sure you have lost the respect of everyone in this forum.

I live in France. We are middle class. We live in a middleclass neighborhood. We drive a BMW that it costs $139 dollars to fill up. We have a 2nd car also. We have all of the top of the line modern appliances and even running water. Imagine that! I'll bet any kind of money my house has more technology in it than yours does. And it's not driven by hamsters. We go out to dinner, I play the violin in a symphony orchestra. We travel. Do we sound...poor or...compacted? We are the typical middle class family, two kids, three grandkids, a cat.

The thing that is different is "middleclass" people in France don't have 100 credit cards, and a ton of debt. They have more disposable income in spite of life being expensive here.

Sorry this was so long, but you are completely out of line here.

OK..well...whoever wrote this has no understanding of the French language. It seems to have been written by someone's pet monkey...or Babelfish. Not once sentence is properly constructed, it is literally impossible to understand.

As far as I can tell you are trying to criticize Sarko using what Macedonians say..like..who cares?
