Eritrea: Africa's version of North Korea?

Full story: Christian Science Monitor

In this lonely corner of the world, the first sign of distress is the luggage. When one of the few international flights that are still operating here touched down one recent afternoon, the returning passengers emerged from baggage claim as if from a big shopping trip.

I find it very ironic that we (Americans) are making fun of an African nation that wants to be self-reliant. I thought we valued hard work. Since when has a hard work and earning a living on your own become a bad thing. When African nations say they don’t want to live on welfare; we should commend them and offer help not obstacles, so they can be an example to other African nations. Has the saying “give me a fish and I eat for a day. Teach me to fish and I eat for a life time” doesn’t work anymore? What is happening to Eritrea for asking to fish for herself reminds me what happened to African American slaves right after the Civil War. They asked for 40 acres and a mule so they can farm and earn their living. But they were declined and given welfare instead. I just find it ironic that we have no problem with other African nation with abundant natural resource and their people are suffering because their governments are corrupted. But when a nation in Africa wants to do the right thing to improve the lives of its people, it gets a negative press. WHAT IS GOING ON? I DON’T UNDERSTAND! AND THIS IS FROM CHRISTAN PEOPLE BUT AGAIN THE CURSADERS WERE CRISTAN TOO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Eritrea - Isaias Afewerki in 1974 (Self Reliance).

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Eritrea - Isaias Afewerki in the 1980's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Isaias Afwerki's Interview with Los Angeles Times (Part 1/7)

Look how much issayis aferkio has benefited Eritrea , he has work hard to make Eritrea better and has more knowledge and experience than you can wish to know about Eritrea/people nation building and unity

i support issayis aferkio not because I’m blind but because he has Eritrea’s and the Eritrean peoples best interest at heart
He is the same man every day he’s policy are rational he’s vision is great

Listen to issayis aferkio if you really have a brain and you wish for Eritrea’s best interest at CURRENT times you will agree he is Eritrea best leader

hazen, can you do me a favor and list the crimes he commited against poor innocent eritreans as well, we know who he is and what has done. what we are saying is A ONE MAN RULE is not healthy. when the whole country fight and die together, its our inherit right to govern and participate in the daily policies that affect every eritrean. who gave him the right to speak and rep all eritrean? he might share your view but he doesn't share mine, can you retarded respect that, stop acting as if the whole country is your or his personal property. he guys was a hero at one point but now he is the most hated agame in eritrea. f. him and his blind supporters, to us eritreans he is simply hitler with no heart towards his own peopel

my view is simple, THE RULE OF LAW AND ERITREANS CONSTITUTION. agree when push come to shove: i am 100% with eritrean defense forces but where is the rule of law in eritrea. a one man rule is b.s, and doesn't rep our culture and tradtion. we paid so much, we should have a say, regardless how heroic isu is/was, we paid over 100,000 our brothers and sisters (when do the eritrean people have their say)
