The truth is that educated salvadorians or those that are professionals really do not use the word voz, it is considered slang speach and not suppose to be used with just anyone. I personally dislike it and was always brought up to use tu and usted. 100% Salvadorian!

Everyone here is slow. Dont listen to them, but you also said mexicans speak the true spanish, false, if you dont speak like people from spain, then your not talking true spanish. Why do we use "vos"? Because its short for the Spanish word "vosotro" which means you. We just dont say the whole word. Just vos. And "vosotros" means you all. Sooooo.... We speak closer to true spanish than mexicans. And you mexicans are so cocky. It bugs ME that mexicans think theyre the shit. In my area, mexicans are terrified of salvadorans and start moving out of neighborhoods when we move in them. Cuz they know they cant pretend to be the shit around us or we'll put them mexicacas in there place.

We use it because that's what we wer taught to use. If you go to El Salvador, you hardly hear tu.
I am a North American learning spanish in Guatmala. I was taught to use VOZ when i am talking with other men, i am a man. Otherwise, they will think you are gay if you use TU to speak with men you barely know. Then i have friends in Cancun and everyone there uses the TU from for speaking. It does not matter if you know them or if you just met them. So it depends on the country you are in.

Think of it like old English.
Vos- tu
Vosotros- nosotros
Peliar por esto es pura ignorancia. And it's Salvadoran not Salvadorean or Salvadorian.

We are not in a conversation regarding social classes. As you try to represent our culture please be aware that it is Salvadoran NOT Salvadorian. As a daughter of educated Salvadorans my parents interchangeably use vos and tu. I minored in Salvadoran studies and realize our culture and language is as as beautiful as any other Latin nations.

And what I refer to as Old Spanish is when The Spanish language developed. English, Spanish, and Italian all derived from Latin, one of these words was vos meaning you. So in fact Tu is a more modern form of vos.

I've never laughed so hard at the comments on a discussion forum. People take this stuff seriously, eh? I concur with someone who said "vosotros" is old Spanish for "you" singular, but it has become plural for "you all." And "vos" is a short form of "vosotros" which omits the "i" in most cases and is used in informal language.

I'm going to keep laughing in the meantime, cause I think this is very funny. Jajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja jajajajajajaja.

You guys are so stupid fighting over one little word. Why can't we Latinos just get along? Yo soy Salvadoreño también and I don't care where you're from in Latino América, I just care that your Latino. You idiots fighting make us look really really bad and it's sad porque nunca, NUNCA van a aprender! And there is NO perfect Spanish, only standard, each Latin country has its own slang and dialects. By the way Vos was used by the royalty of Spain in the old days and it then came into common use. Then los españoles came to the America's and certain groups took it to certain country's. Some Cubans use Vos, in Argentina it's standard, some Colombians use it, Salvadorans, etc.¡De nada idiotas!
