I'm pretty sure the law has recently changed, within the last year or so and they can be taken into the military later - but I believe it depends on their education.
Also, it used to be that Egyptian men married to foreign women were exempt from the military. That has FOR SURE changed and now when they go to get their exemption document it puts the military on notice that they've married a foreigner and they tend to take those guys right away.
Thank-you very much for your respectful comments. I will have to look into this more thoroughly. I appreciate your comments. Why do they take these men right away if they are married to foreign women?

How is it adultery? An orfi/urfi marriage is a legal marriage and he's entitled to as many as four wives. He doesn't have to inform his first wife and he certainly doesn't have to have her consent to take another wife.
If he married her with an orfu/urfi there was no adultery.
Actually yes they have to ask their first wife's permission apparantly. Any way its just their eay of asking man made releigion to commit adultery. When are ppl going to leave the old testament and start living in the new testament? It states that one man one wife only. The old testament was made to populate the world...hang in there Chrissy!!! You don't deserve this at all...I'm so angry that this happened to you!!

Because so many of them used it as a way out of serving in the military. There was A LOT of men marrying foreign women, getting their exemption (and sometimes using the exemption letter to obtain a visa out of Egypt), then divorcing her. Not everyone, of course, but enough of it that the rules changed. I guess the Egyptian government figures that if he's married for the right reasons, the marriage will endure the length of time it takes for him to complete his military service and not however long it takes to get exempted and, maybe, a visa.

Multiple wives in Egypt has nothing to do with either the Old or New Testament but, rather, the Qu'ran. Egyptian family law is totally based on Sharia law, meaning its foundation is Islam.

And, no, he does not have to aske his first wife's permission to marry another. He doesn't even have to tell her that he's thinking about it or that he's done it.

Egypt did change Personal Status laws during Sadat's time to say the GOVERNMENT must inform wives of their husband's subsequent marriages. But just because there's a law on the books doesn't mean it's enforced.

My mail carrier sits in a sheesha cafe all day and calls the people on his route to tell them he has a piece of mail for them. They go to him, hand him some money, and he gives them their mail. Now, if my husband took another wife and the government sent me a notice, do you think the mail carrier is going to call ME and tell me to come and pick up MY mail? Of course not. He would call my husband because that's the only phone number he has. So if my husband tries to hide another wife from me, or me from another wife, how would either of us know? Short answer: we wouldn't.

A case of double standards I say!!!!
We ALL have double standards Beejo, whether we admit it or not. And I gave you all a big headache in trying to check????

I had him checked by a British investigative journalist, I dont recall pleading with everyone to check my guy out...

and yes, what is wrong with trying to ensure that someone with no money is not going to try to take mine????

I am certainly not going to try to get his money as he doesnt have any!! And hell will freeze over before I marry an Egyptian to get a Visa to live in Egypt!

And it was not me saying that I was using and abusing, it was the strangely bitter and twisted woman that apparently has a strong solid happy marriage with an Egyptian. Maybe he had her circumcised or something nd she's trying to spoil everyone else's fun..who knows...

I did not say I was using and abusing, I said so what if I was. Very different!

Hiya, just one quick question.

What does this mean:

The two partners promise that they will offer this contract to the concealed to finish all paper to the contract (to make the contract as a document)

Chrissy my dear, I'm a Western woman, one with ten years of marriage to an Egyptian man who a woman like you could never get let alone keep.
You may enjoy the sex for a while but you will never find the contentment of a long term lasting marriage with an attitude like yours.
You are a user and an abuser.
Going on your hostility, anger and bitterness, I would say your 10+ year marriage is not a happy one, why else would you be here??? If you were blissfully happy you would be enjoying your life instead of coming on here trying to sow the seeds of doubt in the minds of others and hurling abuse.

Get a life mouow, or rather, get a new life.

Calm down ladies. Lol!

I very much appreciate your support, thankyou.

However, I need to let you both know that these people are not upsetting me. On the contrary, I am laughing at them because they are pathetic.

Laugh with me girls!

I am assuming that that law only works if the marriage is registered. How can the government possibly know otherwise.

You had this guy 'investigated'you say[and I do not believe you for a moment!]
You are aiding and abetting a man to commit adultery
You have one set of values for your interest and another for others
That is hypocritical
The woman who is happily married is trying to tell it like it is and you and those who cheer
you on are also hypocrites like inalandaraway who recently was also worried about her own husband

You need some counselling
You must be desperate to behave this way or ugly and unable to find a nice boy in your own country!

It seems to me that the moniker you have applied to yourself suits you perfectly

Right people,

I am not coming back here again. I am an adult and cannot be bothered to engage in childish arguments with bitter and twisted people who seem to wish their unhappiness on others.

Thank you to all of you who posted nice, sensible, constructive posts. They were most welcome and read with interest.

To the ones who like to throw insults around - I hope you eventually find the happiness that is obviously lacking in your lives and can go on to become less bitter.

Adios!

Chrissy

I'm leaving these sights as well. Chrissy good for you for having your guy investigated. That was a very smart thing to do. I'm glad to have met a few of you. Many are positive on here and others are too critical. I'm disappointed with what I read from ppl last night and was appauled. I'm a very positive person and I don't find this positive anymore. Thank-you to those who have given me great advice and support. I appreciate all the conversations. I wish everyone luck in their lives and safety at all times.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Scorpio

The thought of the sales is almost too good to resist today, and you'll jump at the chance to see what's on offer. Even better if you can snap up some bargains at the same time. It's certainly a good day for investing your money carefully, but make sure you aren't more seduced by the reduction in the cost of something than in the item itself. Are you certain that you want to buy it?
