What's it all about?
Genetic research underway in Lebanon and other locations around the Mediterranean basin proves that the Lebanese carry Phoenician genetic identifiers and belong to both Muslims and Christian sects of the country. Further, preponderance of these identifiers is predominant among the people of the coastal areas. What is also evident is that there were three major genetic "waves" that had an impact on the population of Lebanon. These waves were European through the Crusades, Arab through the Conquest of Islam from the Arabian Peninsula and Turkish through the Seljuk Turks invasion from Central Asia. |

history of phoenician maronite christians Message from a Lebanese Muslim lady
From: Sarah Date: Wed, 1 Mar 2006 11:21:48 -0800 (PST) To: <slim@phoenicia.org> Subject: Lebanese-- PHOENICIAN!!--Muslim! Hello! In your section called "Stealing the Heritage," you write that "...it lays waste the claim of the Jewish people to their Promised Land and claims Christianity false since it has its roots in Judaism." This also affects Islam as well, since Islam's roots are in Judaism and Christianity. This might be too much to ask, but could you include that as well? I am a Lebanese Muslim, but we always remember our Phoenician roots in my family. It is a little hurtful to see so little mention of muslim Phoenicians, and I'm not even remotely religious, so I wonder what others must feel!(I know this is mostly due to that fact that most Muslims reject their Phoenician origin, but since we are all of the same people, it seems only right to try and pass this information on no matter what). Also, on one of your pages you said that many people think being Phoenician means Maronite, but, while I know that's not true, I feel that you should mention the fact that there are many Maronites who claim that they are the only non-arabs in Lebanon, and that Lebanese Muslims are Arab. It's the same claim, this time in reverse. I think claiming your ethnicity through religion isn't right, and that we as Lebanese people should stand together and embrace our Phoenician heritage no matter what our religion. I remember editing a wikipedia article* on Lebanese people to say that "The people of Lebanon consider themselves Phoenician" and it was changed over and over again by someone else to "Lebanese Maronites are Phoenician." I gave up on changing the article, but I still wish people didn't do things like this. I really love reading through this site, I just wish there was a little more said about the Lebanese Muslims. I am proud of my Phoenician heritage, but I am sick of having to explain it to others who think that the Lebanese are Arab, or to those who think that only Christians are Phoenician. If the Phoenicians converted to Christianity, why is it so hard for others to believe that some of them converted to Islam? And what about those who may have been forced to convert against their will? Not that my family has any problems with our religion now or anything, but people should think about these things instead of being so closed minded. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Next time you are able to work on this site, please think about what I have written. Phoenician Muslims are out there, and we want recognition too! Both Arabs and Phoenicians are from a common heritage. The Phoenicians spoke a language that is identical to Hebrew and Punic. The Arabs are obviously related, although of course they are not identical. So, what is the big deal anyway?....Arabs are related to Phoenicians and Phoenicians are related to Arabs.

It is amazing: what should people understand? That Arabs are islamic people? "Islamic" is a race? Thank you for telling me this (very new) news. Amazing how much raccism there can be out there.
|
|
Muslims in most middle eastern countries means NATIVES who mixed with the arabs. The non muslims means NATIVE who prefered to keep thier religion and didn't mix with the arabs. That's not racism everyone is just proud of his heritage you can't blame them much. |

Perverted (?!): I am asking you ... Arab = islamic Person? Do you know that your Islam came on 600 A.C., and that before that date, there was a whole humanity already existing, which wasn't related to (the un-existant) Islam at all?[You are proud of your so said race -...-, because your religion/policy teaches you that your race -...- is the best of the world/universe/.... This has nothing to do with "being grateful towards ancestors, for what they did". Actually, thanks to your religion/policy, we all should forget who/what existed before 600 A.C., and ignore who/what existed after 600 A.C. that wasn't islamic]. Sorry, but Islam is a drop in the ocean.

Cheeky what came before Islam is one thing and what came after (to Muslims) is something else. For those of us who are modern day Muslims, it is a bit more than a 'drop in the ocean'. Please try to be a little less offensive.

Dear Waterproof, sorry but too often I habe the feeling (not just it) that who offend others are actually islamic people. It sounds like their Culture is the only one who has the right to exist in the world (and they do not respect other Cultures). Which of course, it a totally wrong thought. I hope you do not find too much offensive this way of seeing life and Civilizations, thank you.

Then correct me. I mentioned facts i am egyptian and i am here for the whole of my life so i don't think you know any better about my country history than i do. |

Read my post well sounds you misunderstood my post or you have below average IQ or shallow knowledge about manythings.I mentioned the race of the people in the middle east just 300 millions. While muslims are over one billion. There is nothing called islamic race muslims are everywhere could be asian like indonsian or black like nigierian or semitic like the arabs. There is another term called Islamic Nation adopted by a wide sector like muslim brothers to unify all the muslims in one nation based on islam .They would trust a malaysian because his just muslim and mistrust any fellow citisen just because he is not muslim. Yes they believe that the Islamic Nation is the best and superior nation for nothing but being muslim. I hope you can keep your dumb conclusions about me ,my faith and my race WITHOUT even knowing me this will ensure me that you have below average IQ. |

Hope someone remove this topic from here because we have nothing to do with the lebanese ancestors race in a forum about Egypt.

Perverted: what you call Islamic Nation is not just something that terrorists (IQ?) dream about. Almost every islamic person dreams about it (raccists?). In Europe, we already had such kind of totalitarism, and we know that they are a very wrong thing. Sorry for my IQ (that is far higher to the one of people waiting about spreading their totalitarism). Good bye.

No, you are correct in a sense. There are some who believe that way. The majority of modern day Muslims do not believe that. The problem is when you allow your view to become skewed into thinking that because a small majority who are highlighted in the media think that way then we must ALL be the same. That is called generalization. |
