To the best of my knowledge you can only import a NEW vehicle into Ecuador.

Does it make any difference if you bought land and built a new house and want to bring your veicle?

Sorry to say this, but not to my knowledge. Might want to call the American Embassy and ask them though....or if you have a friend in Ecuador that you can ask.

I asked my attorney here when I bought my house about importing a used car, but was told I could not! If you built a new house here, you had to hire an attorney/notary. I would ask that same person also.

Hope this helps.

Also contact the Ecuadorean Embassy. Do a search for your state, or just call the embassy in Washing DC!

Also note this info:

"Ecuadorian law prohibits the import of used cars, you can import a car only if it is brand new. That means you can only bring into the country a car thatís 2011 or the year before 2010. Used cars are only permitted if they are used for emergencies like an ambulance, racing cars for professionals competitions, or ONGs."

"The taxes are very high for imported vehicles. For example, you need to pay around 35% the list price of the car, plus another 12% IVA, plus another 5% local tax."

Also note that any new car brought here, in general, is a higher model than what is being sold here. Cars here are generally the base model, with few of the standard accessories your accustomed to. Add $2,000 or more to any model your interested in buying here.

Chevy is #1 in car sales, I think Toyota is #2, and Nissan is #3. Raffy has told the car dealers here, that they have to cut the number of imported cars into Ecuador by 20% this year, forcing the prices to go even higher, and he has added new taxes to the cost of buying a car here.
