Tucked amid the bounce houses and pink balloons dotting C.B. Smith Park on Sunday was a party of another kind, one in honor of the Dominican Republic's Independence Day.

As merengue beats pumped through speakers and revelers feasted on plantains, red, white and blue Dominican flags flapped in the breeze, commemorating the day, Feb. 27, in 1844 when the Caribbean country gained its freedom from neighboring Haiti.

'Dominican people are all about having fun,' said Melina Concepcion, 28, of Miramar, who hadn't started dancing yet. When asked why, Concepcion winked and said, 'When it gets dark.' Read more

We don't want to give away DR and it's successes to the Haitians by simply ignoring the 2 millions Haitians in DR or the more than 100,000 Haitians that illegaly cross from Haiti to DR! If we want to continue to have economical, political and social success, we must stop the illegal trafficking of people, weapons, drugs, and contraband at the border. We, must then deport the illegal aliens in DR. This will bring honor back to 285, the constitution, and laws as well as to maintain a population balance (controlled demand) and maintain the racial distribution (73 % mulato, 16 % white , and 11 % negro) that has characterized STO DGO from 1801 to today!

C'est pourquoi les interventions pour contrôler ce phénomène font tant de victimes par les civils, fait remarquer le service Jésuite qui exige des sociétés civiles haïtiennes et dominicaines qu'elles se prononcent contre l'usage disproportionné de la force à la frontière et contre la corruption dont sont coupables les fonctionnaires publiques en république Dominicaine.

Le service Jésuite des réfugiés appelle aussi le gouvernement dominicain à enquêter entre autres, sur la mort le mois dernier de plusieurs femmes enceintes malmenées pardes militaires du CESFRONT.
