Spain celebrates Columbus, descendants defend his legacy

The argument over whether Columbus was a source for good or a wealth-crazed egoist who ran roughshod over native American culture when he and his fellows came ashore in 1492 has fuelled interest in the ...

The sad part is that my country the USA still celebrates a holiday for this piece of s**t. The fact that Columbus came here by mistake going to India/China, and then came back only to have the natives mine the land for a gold to fill up queen Isabella's pockets in return have the natives all massacred and plagued by diseases so they could clear the islands of Hispaniola to make way for a new Spanish colony for Spain and set up catholic churches to convert what was left of the natives and ten have slaves to cultivate the land while dehumanizing them which Columbus was aware of. To still have this holiday is sickening ,and I think here should be a petition to cut Columbus day. For real!!!

I'm Dominican and your points are incorrect.
We share very little with Haiti, even though we have our own variety of Spanish. It does not preclude us from at least sounding "educated" Mr. Afro.
Plenty of Dominicans have mixed European and African blood, but also many others exclusively European and others are exclusively African. As it were my friend, who I truly greatly doubt are in face Dominican. Many of us are mulatto, and others indeed mestizo.

Your ignorance and inaccurate comments do us all a great diservice my friend.

Because even though we all have a voice it does not mean that voice, if foolish like yours must be heard.
What you are is a Haitian, a Haitian who denies his background and claims he is a Dominican in order to impeach, denigrate and generalize.

Colombus only brought terror to the western hemisphere. The dominican republic is majorly of african descent and thanks to him and the spaniards along with most europeans. We still live in mental slavery. Good hair bad hair, all that bull. Everyone wants to be so european, even though they are not. We have to deal with tryign to speak like a spaniard, and are ashamed to speak our africanized spanish, "ke lo ke". We also have to deal with false borders like the one diving us from Haiti. We are one people, one african brethren, we even come from the same regions of africa. The only thing dividing us is a language and lots of ignorance. In central america and mexico they have to deal with borders and all these names, guatemala, el salvador, names that never existed prior to colombus. In wish the Anauhac people of mexico lived as one stretching from the midwest USA down to central america. Thankyou colombus, for, wiping out millions of native americans, enslaving millions of africans, and bringing over with you all these dividers that split the land like cake. Thankyou for making it so that everyone who does not look like you, is born inferior. Thankyou.
