The President’s Special Representative and Spokesperson Osman Ertug has responded to statements by the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias that they are one step ahead on the Cyprus Problem.
Describing the Greek Cypriot leader’s assertions as comical, Ertug said that Christofias should announce on which issue or issues the Greek Cypriot Side was one step ahead.
In a statement responding to the Greek Cypriot leader’s claims, the President’s Special Representative and Spokesperson Osman Ertug said that Christofias was probably looking at the issue from an opposite angle.
“If he is speaking of a step away from a just, lasting and viable settlement then yes, the Greek Cypriot Side is one step ahead” said Ertug.
The President’s Special Representative reminded that the UN Secretary General had requested 3 things from the two sides at the last tripartite meeting in Green tree, the exchange of information on property, a global figure on population and to be prepared for negotiating these issues in good will.
“The Cyprus Turkish Side had done its part on all three issues, however everyone is well aware of the Greek Cypriot Side’s refusal to accept the introduction of timetables, arbitration or mediation and a multi-party conference” he said.
Ertug also expressed the hope that the to-be-elected Greek Cypriot leader will show political will towards reaching a just, realistic and viable solution to the Cyprus Problem.

Please someone enlighten me on this issue of the Greek Cypriot administration claiming to be one step ahead!

On which said issue have the Greek Cypriot administration succeeded being ahead of other than alienating the Turkish Cypriots and at the same time detrimentally affecting the identity of all Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots.

My point proven by your lack of imagination or any real thought as to what I'm referring to.

Simply put, acknowledgement of each others existence has more of a chance to empower each community. To maintain the idea of what it means to identify with being a Cypriot. With repatriation of some sort after mutual respect and co existence as two separate states have become the norm; with respect for each others equal share in the Islands natural resources, including what is needed the most in reality, water (which will shortly be piped of from Turkey to the TRNC).

Economic, social and spiritual benefits for all to rejoice and embrace!

This is simply political speak Fixer. Ans as with all political speak, it says something without meaning anything.

The Cyprus problem is constructed in such a way that all roads can only lead to partition. The only alternative is the continuing status quo.
What kind of negotiations can you have between such unequal powers?
What on earth can compel Turkey to negotiate on anything. Why should it?
If Cyprus was also a large nation of even 50mil then it would have been another story.
What ordinary GC and TCs come to that think, is irrelevant. The person with the biggest stick has the final word.

Yes it is Aga. Nevertheless, it's jingoistic in its nature and it brings me to the point I'm trying to make.

What is perverse about the whole Cypriot issue is that the original victims (Turkish Cypriots), by the hands of Greek Cypriots and Hellenism, are now being portrayed as the culprits with no remorse, shame or sincerity shown by the Greek Cypriot's, to resolve and address what is a crime against humanity!

No attempt for reconciliation by the Greek Cypriots towards their equal partners Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus!

Many opportunities were there and still are to safeguard Cyprus for the betterment of both communities, but the Gree
