Many Greek-Australians are living in extreme poverty..The sad truth was verified by Labor MP Steve Georganas, "It's an every-day phenomenon to see desperate Greek-Australians knocking on mydoor asking for help"

he continued, "A common belief is that the Greek community is a wealthy community and we often hear success stories of our Greek compatriots that create this DELUSION. That's not how it goes, behind the story of ONE successful Greek-Australian businessman are the stories of HUNDREDS of our compatriots living in POVERTY"

It is good to come clean...the sooner Greeks take their heads out of the sand the better....especially about Cyprus

My thoughts are with Lapithos and Greek-Australian..Hope you are eating well and didn't sell your PC's

Turkish Aid to Greek FAMINE
The Turkish Government leased the SS Kurtulus a cargo ship (1941). It was used to deliver food to Greece during the famine created by the NAZIs during their occupation of Greece. Turkish president signed a degree assist the starving Greek people. He had personally fought the Greeks 19 years earlier when Greeks invade Turkey. The Turks collected food in a nationwide campaign conducted by Kizilay (the Turkish Red Crescent). The food was shipped to Istmbul from all over Turkey. The SS Kurtulus was used to ship the food. Large symbols of the Red Crescent were painted on both sides. The Turkish Government obtained permission from the British to pass through the Royal Navy blockade to deliver the food to Athens. The vessel sank in heavy seas in the Sea of Marmara on its fifth voyage (February 20, 1942). The Turkish Government continued food deliveries through till 1946.

----------

Turkish aid, my foot! Every single shipment carried by the SS Kurtulus was paid for by Greek bussinessmen, as clearly stated in a previous post here on Topix. The reason the SS kurtulus was conducting the trips it was for the money. The ship was hired for a hefty fee for every trip and the owners were making good money untill their Turkish navicational incompetence managed to put it at the bottom of the sea of Marmara.
Now they want to take the credit for those trips and turn a bussiness venture into a humanitarian one. Shame on them.

Maybe that's because the Turks have been smuggling illegals to take their jobs away from them.Wait until this starts happening in other EU countries such as Italy,Spain,Ireland Portugal that suffer now as does Greece.

----------

It is simple. If politicians such as Cameron have their way, Turkey will be allowed the EU and then the party begins. As Nigel Farah says half of the 100 million Turks will be in no time on one way tickets to England and half of the English people will be also on one way tickets to other destinations a few years later.
One thing I honestly do not understand about British politicians is why are they trying so hard to get Turkey IN the EU when they themselves at the same time they are pushing the country OUT of the EU. Is it their way of inflicting the final blow on the EU and destroy every single country in Europe?
I know that the British politicians in power today they do not see eye to eye with the EU but they do not have to go as far as destroying it. It is evident that the same politicians would have liked to tow Britain much more to the West if it were technically possible. It is not the same as Nigel Farah is doing. Nigel is trying to change the EU not destroy it.

Wrong, a lot of the Greeks here including myself catch "prawns" aka "shrimps" as we call them in "Cast nets", easy and just down the road at low tide whenever we want, if you know what "low tide' means and what a "cast net" is. You;re seriously our of league here, malaka

Nonsense I talk to relatives on both Cyprus and Greece all the time,by phone or by Facebook. You are a sick demented individual that scours the Internet for hours just to post about Greek hardships. You live in London which is full of Greeks Why don't you show them the same article? Can't afford a Printer?
Must I remind you that it was the Country of Greece that was the first country to aid Turkey with massive aid during the 99 Earthquakes? Tiny Cyprus sent aid as well as a Medical staff That you
don't mention. It is you Stink Bubble that has lost touch WITH REALITY
