“Just as cardinals convene for a conclave and don’t leave the table until they choose the Pope, we as Turkey, Greece, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Greek Cypriot Administration should meet at a summit and not leave the table before solving the Cyprus problem” Bagis said.
Addressing the meeting of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee at the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Turkey’s EU Minister Bagis expressed the hope that the solution process in Cyprus will hopefully be relaunched following the presidential election in South Cyprus, which is this Sunday.
“I hope a reasonable mentality emerges with the election of the new Greek Cypriot Leader and we restart the solution process. But if the new process fails, no one shall expect Turkey to obey any fait accompli of the EU” Bagis stressed.
“Let’s hold a summit and not leave the table before we solve the Cyprus problem. If Greece and the Greek Cypriot Side are in, we are ready too. It’s really tragicomic to see those, who continuously rejected all resolution plans, blaming us for the non-solution” he added.
