Cuba: Building collapses in Havana, two persons trapped

Punt de Vista is reporting that another building has collapsed in Havana, Cuba, leaving two people trapped under the rubble, one of them a 15-year-old boy. The building was located in central Havana on Arsenal street.

Unfortunately, these types of tragic events have become all too common in Cuba as the Castro dictatorship devotes all its resources to building new hotels and resorts for foreign tourists while neglecting the buildings where common Cubans live. Many of these buildings have been dangerously expanded with makeshift materials and shoddy construction in an effort to ease the severe housing shortage in the island's capital. Furthermore, most of the buildings have not seen any major repairs or maintenance since the "triumph of the revolution" in 1959.
