I read on one site said that Prisma Dental quotes you one price but then adds significantly more charges to your bill. That is one of the many reasons that I am looking for an ethical & capable dentist.
I've had 3 implants, 7 crowns, & 1 root canal done at Prisma and am very satisfied with Drs. Cordero & Rubenstein dental artistry.
I am going back in january 09 to complete my dental work with a friend who has had 4 implants & is going back to have her front teeth re capped.

I went to San Jose, Costa Rica and was treated by Dr. Alberto Meza and his group. www.mezadentalcare.com
They are the best group of dentists- I had 3 root canals, gum contouring, and 19 porcelain veneers and it was $12000 The quality of their work is superb! My uncle loved my smile so much he had to go too and he just got back with rave reviews!! He is a new man. I appreciate them so much. feel free to e-mail me rebeccastringer@bellsouth.net
(FYI-Porcelain veneers in the states range from $2500-$3000 PER TOOTH!!!-rediculous!-Costa Rica is better AND you get a vacation. You have time in between treatment days and we saw the rain forest, volcano etc-wonderful people there)

HELP!!

Which dentist should I use for implants? I was going to use Prisma. They seemed quite nice, but now I think they are too controversial. I have now eliminated Prisma.

I am looking for advice from Americans who have had dental work done.

I am coming to Costa Rica in two weeks for a consultation.

thanks for any reply.

Depending on what your concerns are Dr Aglanda has very good reviews. I have personally called him over the phone and he sounds professional though he couldn't tell me much sighting he has to see my x-rays. So give him a shot, good luck.

I'm working hard to make a good decision on which Dentist to choose Dr Arnoldo Anglada called me this morning and talked at lenght about my need work. Before he called I'd had alot of very positive emails from referal patients, of Dr Mario Gario E Garita. NOW, finding this blog Mario is not on your acclaimed List of 5 dentist only about to do surgery and implants and all the referal said he was great.
ARE THE REFERALS FAKE?

OOPS....I STAND CORRECTED. Mario Garita is on the list....he seems to do most of the work alone, and Arnoldo Anglada seem to run a clinic with specialists

I highly recommend Dr. Arnoldo Anglada who is one of 3 certified specialists in dental implants in CR. I am a healthcare practitioner and my son is going through the process of implants so needless to say I am very choosy about where he goes.
Cheryl,
I also live in Texas. In the Dallas area. Could you tell me where I can find this doctor and what procedure you had done? I see you say implants but is this one or several and is it for missing teeth or damaged teeth?
Thanks!

Well, I finally finished reading the entire post and found that there are a few dentists highly recommended and validated.
And, there are discrepancies of a few others. So, no where on here did I find the clinic I have been talking to. That kind of scares me.
Has anyone heard of New Smile Costa Rica? They are supposed to be really good but after reading all this I am not sure about anything except Dr. Anglada.
Thanks to everyone who has taken time to post and give valid information. It really helps those of us who have no clue what to do.
I have a huge project. 16 extractions, implants over full mouth bridges (upper and lower denture) that will be secured and non removable. I think that I said that correctly.
Please let me know if anyone has information.

Thank you!!!

Blog on Costa Rica Dentists. Need more blogs on Costa Rica dentists, so people don't go to the wrong dentist.
I want to comment on Costa Rica San Jose dentists as there are a lot of people coming to this country for dental work, and I live here and have had experience with many dentists here. First, important not to go to the dentists that are most visilbe on the Internet. I have had bad experiences with Prisma Dental, and feel they are only out for the money. Prisma dental is higher price, and they recommend procedure you don't need. I was suffering a lot of pain and Primsa Dental would not return my phone cals. Dr. Rubenstein told me I needed immediate surgery and would fit me in with their special surgeon. Their special surgeon was old and they charged me more than double what all the other dentists in Costa Rica charge for a sinus lift procedure, bone graft. I had a lot of pain, and an infection, and they never returned any phone calls when I told them i was in pain and having problems. and they were not kind. I would not recommend Prisma Dental.
Meza Dental is another one that is all over the Internet, Tthey are good if you wnat your teeth to look prettier, but not terribly good for serious dental work. Hope this helps someone aoid the same mistakes I made.
I have been talking to Meza Dental Care. I am looking to have 8 veneers. Would this be a good place?

I need to know if anyone knows Dr.Andres furchtgott in Costa rica? I heard he was very good denist. I have been online searching for days....I am hearing stories where people get 27 crowns for 7,000 dollars? But the same dental web site that they say they went to would quote a different price....it would be much more.
I am starting to wonder.....What is going on?
I wonder who the costa rican people rate as the best cosmetic denist? Is it possible that all the denist advertised online are catering "only" to americans? I don't know.....does anyone?

There are only five surgeons recognized in Costa Rica to do Bone grafts. I , also had a horrible experience with PRISMA dental, and would advise others to run from them. They are very skilled at using the Internet for their benefit, but they do not have the training and skills for dental implants. The following are the only dentists recognized by the colegia of Cirujanos in Costa Rica:( the college of surgeons_
ANGLADA RODRIGUEZ ARNOLDO 2232-0105 2290-2121
GARITA CARRILLO MARIO 2288-2160 2288-5185
LOPEZ RUIZ ALVARO 2290-7329 2291-0092
NAVARRO HENRIQUEZ IVAN 2225-0519 2225-0519
OBANDO AGUERO LUIS GUILLERMO 2228-0141 2289-6984
these are the only dentists to consider using for implants.
Please go carefully.
"Where did you find these names. Can you give me the link. I don't know Spanish, so I couldn't verify that. Also where I can find those 3 certified dental specialists.

I received surgery from Dr. Muñoz-Cavallini. I chose him because he put
implants on my friend, and because his prices were better.

He was charming at the beginning. After that, when the problems started, he
never solved my problems...and charged me more money.

I had to find another dentist to fix all the problems caused by him.

Then I found out at the Colegio de Dentistas (the board that rules the
dentists in Costa Rica) that he is not an Specialist in Implants.

He uses One-Hour implants (mini-implants), that worked OK for some months,
but then they started to fail.

Later I found out that One-Hour implants are a cheap solution, and that they
were designed just as a temporary solution. They were offered to me as a
final solution! I could not believe it.

Now my friend (the one who recommended Dr. Muñoz-Cavallini) is having
problems with her implants (that ended up being mini-implants), and her
local dentists told her that they have to be eliminated are replaced by real
implants.

I have to say I do not recommend Dr. Muñoz -Cavallini. I wish I had known
better.

Kelly, I have not been on here for awhile so did not respond to your question and I apologize. If you are still checking this out, please post another message and let me know so we can get in touch. I just heard from another patient of Dr. Anglada that just returned recently from CR and is more than happy with the results.

I can tell you who NOT to go to. I recently had 4 crowns done by Dr. Alejandro Mora in conjunction with his "partner" in Papagayo. Dr. Mora practices in both San Jose and the Liberia area. The work was very shoddy and my dentist in the States told me it was the worst job he had ever seen. The bite is completely off, the porcelain layer was too thin on the metal base and pieces have since chipped off. The color is also bad. Please do not go to this dentist. Guys like this need to be put out of business or at least not profit from the many foreigners going to Costa Rica for low-cost quality dental care.
