re: ATM skimmers story. Interesting and blood preassure raising. But nary a word of advice on how the public can avoid being ripped off, or how bad guys got the information. I have just put my ATM card away for good and go into the bank to a teller for things I used to do with ATM card. Do public a favor and follow up with cogent advice on guarding of ATM card and credit cards.

My thoughts exactly. This was just a scare article without helpful advice or details. I live in Altadena; did I use a skimming ATM?

Here's a good site with basic skimming information:

I got hit by fraud at the gas station on the corner of Reseda Blvd and Sherman Way. They hit me for over $200.00, but Bank Of America helped me clear this up. It's a damn shame people are too LAZY to work for money and need to steal it.

Mr. Giradot
In response to your quote:
"But then again, in politically sensitive Monrovia, even the word "victim" is charged."
What information are you trying to convey with that sentence? In what way is Monrovia different than the other cities mentioned in this article?

Sean, you have to remember, Girardot is the guy who likes to report on a psychic who is haunted by the ghost of deceased Pasadena Police Lieutenant David Richter, and thinks this is actual news, instead of the lead story on the Jerry Springer Show.

Girardot is having a hard time justifying his existence at the SGV Tribune, so he creates these non-stories with little information in them. I agree with another poster, this is nothing more than a scare piece.

Another timely Public Awareness Article by the SGVN. Hope the public takes notice and questions their bank manager (e-mail) what bank policy is regarding replacing stolen funds if they fall victim to Credit Card Fraud/ ATM skimming, God help them if their savings is linked to their checking accounts. Often times banks have a program that makes the client aware of unusual transactions such as cash withdrawal from a ATM in Bogota, Columbia, but, you have to ask (e-mail), verbal is worthless. If you don't get a immediate response from your bank remember there are 3,850 banks in the Los Angeles area. The clock is ticking.
Excellent Law Enforcement ATM Skimming information; photos, videos & bulletin posted on face page of bank robbery website www.scorpio-security.com

Mr. Nanos,
I don't know Mr. Girardet other than he reports the news and is one of the editors of the SGVN, please enlighten readers how he creates stories.
Re:'Scare Piece" just Google "ATM Skimming", now that's scary!

8-5-08 Good News for a change!, Glendale Police arrested 3 suspects, in the act, using ATM Skimmers at a Washington Mutual Bank in Glendale.
Hopefully they will roll over on their 'Buds'.
Pull-up www.bank211s-mike.blogspot.com and www.scorpio-security.com for photos & video of Skimming
