Men Plead Guilty To Animal Cruelty For Killing Dog
Prosecutors Say Men Were Not Targeted For Trying To Eat Dog
HONOLULU -- Two former golf course workers on Wednesday pleaded guilty to animal cruelty for killing a dog they planned to eat.
Moanalua Golf Course landscape workers Saturnino Palting and Nelson Domingo had a theft charge dropped as part of a plea agreement.
They pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty for killing Caddie, a 50-pound dog owned by a member of the club.
The men were not prosecuted because they planned to eat the dog, prosecutors said.
"There were allegations of cruelty to the dog. This is not a comment on anybody's culture or anybody's eating habits and that's important for everybody really understand that part," deputy prosecutor Kristine Yoo said.
The prosecutor plans to ask that each man spend five years in prison although their attorneys said they plan to ask for probation and seek to have the conviction kept off their criminal records.
Sentencing is set for July.
