Philippines: The Killing Fields of Asia
Waging war on activists and others, with U.S. support

Since President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo joined the U.S. global “war on terrorism,” the Philippines has become the site of an ongoing undeclared war against peasant and union activists, progressive political dissidents and lawmakers, human rights lawyers and activists, women leaders, and a wide range of print and broadcast journalists. Because of the links between the Army, the regime, and the death squads, political assassinations take place in an atmosphere of absolute impunity. The vast majority of the attacks occur in the countryside and provincial towns. The reign of terror in the Philippines is of similar scope and depth as in Colombia. Unlike Colombia, the state terrorism has not drawn sufficient attention from international public opinion.

Between 2001 and 2006 hundreds of killings, disappearances, death threats, and cases of torture have been documented by the independent human rights center, KARAPATAN, and the church-linked Ecumenical Institute for Labor Education and Research. Since Arroyo came to power in 2001, there have been 400 documented extrajudicial killings.

As our (US) armies were committing massacres in the Philippines (at least 600,000 Filipinos died in a few years of conflict), Elihu Root, our Secretary of War, was saying: "The American soldier is different from all other soldiers of all other countries since the war began. He is the advance guard of liberty and justice, of law and order, and of peace and happiness."

The US has nothing to do with the Philippine-China dispute.

The US got only dragged because of the Mutual Defense Treaty.

The dispute started when CHINA occupied Mischief reef in 1995

If I want WAR then WHY am I ADVOCATING for the International Court Arbitration?

Which is the most peaceful way to settle disputes.

IF CHINA IS NOT A WAR MONGER then she SHOULD GO TO THE COURT WITH THE PHILIPPINES.

ENOUGH SAID!

And I remember you BANANA fan........

Let see what was the result of the ECONOMIC SANCTION IMPOSED BY CHINA AGAINST THE PHILIPPINES by REJECTING ITS BANANAS.

Jan. 24, 2013

http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/291828/e...

Philippine bananas overcame the restrictions imposed by China and the devastation of plantations in Mindanao last month, buoyed by higher shipments to traditional and alternative markets.

Banana exports grew more than 110 percent to 3.8 million metric tons last year from 1.8 million MT in 2011, Bureau of Plant Industry director Clarito Baron revealed in a speech during the bureau's 83rd anniversary celebrations on Thursday.

“There was a significant increase in volume in major importing countries like Japan and Korea,” Barron told reporters in an interview after his address.

The combined shipments of 1 million MT to Japan and South Korea more than made up for the
losses in China, said Baron.

Then the shipments to new destinations Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and other Middle East countries gave the banana industry a much needed boost, he added.

The Department of Agriculture, the Plant Bureau's mother agency, expects the banana industry to further grow this year with the first ever shipment of 3,000 MT to the US happening in the first quarter.

The shipment by Dole Philippines, scheduled last December, was canceled after typhoon Pablo destroyed Cavendish plantations in Mindanao early last month to meet the export obligations to Japan and South Korea.

The US Department of Agriculture approved the maiden shipment and it was “a dream come true” for contract growers who have been hankering about the US market, Baron told reporters in a separate interview last October.
