Philippines takes China to UN arbitral tribunal

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday announced that the Philippines has taken the step of bringing its West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) territorial disputes to China before an Arbitral Tribunal under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to achieve a peaceful and durable solution to the disputes.
The announcement was made by Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario.

Del Rosario, in a press conference, said that a note verbale detailing the notification and statement of claim that “challenges before the Arbitral Tribunal the validity of China’s nine-dash claim to almost the entire South China Sea (SCS) including the West Philippine Sea and to desist from unlawful activities that violate the sovereign rights and jurisdiction of the Philippines under the 1982 UNCLOS” was handed to Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Ma Keqing at around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
“The Philippines has exhausted almost all political and diplomatic avenues for a peaceful negotiated settlement of its maritime dispute with China……To this day, a solution is still elusive. We hope that the Arbitral Proceedings shall bring this dispute to a durable solution,” Del Rosario said.
“We hope that China would join us in this aspiration,” Del Rosario said.

Del Rosario noted that Solicitor General Francis H. Jardeleza has been tasked as the legal representative for the Philippines in these Arbitral proceedings.
“The lead counsel of the Philippines is Paul Reichler of Foley and Hoag LLP,” he said.

Foreign companies pay far more than indigenous companies. They are hardly plundering.

Upon taking the Philippines from Spain in 1898, the US then had to fight a bloody three-year war against Filipino rebels. In Luzon alone over 600,000 people were killed by American troops or died from war-related diseases and privations-as the war against the guerrillas became a war against the people who supported the guerrillas. US General Arthur MacArthur issued a proclamation renouncing "precise observance of the laws of war." Among other things, MacArthur's troops tortured and executed prisoners (civilians included), destroyed crops, food stores, domestic animals, boats, and whole villages, and forced tens of thousands of Filipinos into "relocation camps." In 1901 the Philadelphia Ledger carried a dispatch from its Manila correspondent:
Our men... have killed to exterminate men, women, children, prisoners and captives, active insurgents and suspected people from lads of 10 up .... Our soldiers have pumped salt water into men to "make them talk," and have taken prisoners people who held up their hands and peacefully surrendered, and an hour later... stood them on a bridge and shot them down one by one, to drop into the water below and float down, as examples to those who found their bullet-loaded corpses."
=====
Again, what's your point?

Clearly you have never been involved in war. Only fools believe that it should involve shaking heads and disapproving looks.

For every example of merciless you can provide, I can give several perpetrated by the Filipino rebels.

While I was stationed in the Philippines, I spent a great deal of time dealing with the scum down south. I witnessed Pinoy brutality firsthand. While you scrubbed toilets in the U.S. some of us dealt with the same rebel mentality that early U.S. forces saw. One special memory involved a PMA graduate who was still wet behind the ears being killed. The young man had done nothing more than stand guard at a rural road crossing. He was kidnapped and held for several days. His nipples were removed with a bolo. Fish hooks were used to gouge his eyes out and then imbedded in each of his fingertips. They burned the pads of that Marine's feet so badly that the fascia was exposed. His genitals were hacked off with a metal can top while he was still alive. They were placed in his mouth and he was dumped in front of a school. A security guard 'found' his body shortly before children would have entered the grounds.

Tell me again about how some Filipinos are undeserving of retribution. Then, get back to scrubbing toilets.

The evil US multi-conglomerates/Corporatis it plunder their raw resources and made them slave wage workers, and making sure they don't rise to see prosperity for their own nation! Don't worry the world will see the US -west be one on the end, sooner or later, as you plunders and killers will see justice one day, sooner or later. You do know US and West is dying because all bad things US/WEST did to the world, you time will come, sooner of later, your own demise for being plunderer your US War-for-profiters, neo- imperialistic Militarism interventionist agendas is not working.
<quoted text>
The majority of your nation is impoverished. That is hardly an American issue. We gave the Philippines its independence long ago. While Singapore saw an opportunity to eliminate corruption, enforce laws and value their worth, the Philippines has largely done just the opposite.

I have traveled the world and never seen the necessity to post signs forbidding public urination like they do in the RP. Bawal Umihi Dito Multa should be your national motto.

You are another fine example of the squatter who riots when his shack is bulldozed by the government. You want something for nothing and then blame others for your suffering. While some mastered English and a worthy life skill, you chose ignorance and now are bitter at those who have achieved. You wasted your life and have no one to blame.

And how does that help the Philippines? The Brain-Drain that is happening to the country where productive, educated Filipinos are migrating overseas where it benefit these foreign countries, but doesn't benefit the Philippines.

And this is exactly what the the Philippines needs...more of these productive, educated people who could benefit the country, more business-oriented people who can create jobs for Filipinos instead of moving overseas.

Don't confuse her with reality.

When a doctor is forced to work overseas, in a lesser role, it is shameful.

When a nurse is forced to work overseas it is shameful.

Beyond the 'brain drain', their exit typically creates false expectations for the next generation of Pinoy.

To you it might be shameful, but for those Doctors and other professional, it's better for them to work with a salary than nothing. Shame will not feed their families.

Philippines keep on producing college graduates by the thousands because of its population, so those who exit will definitely be replaced.
