In an emotional speech he said that it was the first of its type in the region but, "It is sad that the United States even New Zealand have not accepted this aircraft."

Eagger why the hell do you insisted that someone should check this plane? Look at its record that's enough. Tell the Chinese to take this plane and shove it where the sun don't shine. This plane is too expensive if we lost one Tongan life because of it. Tell our PM to go ride this plane if he think its safe. I hope our people know how unsafe this plane is and they can decide for themselves. We should hold the PM responsible if one Tongan die in this plane. Who did the PM blow for his job? Just wondering....sorry I'm upset !!!'

Anyhoot, I heard Tonga were gonna put big wheels on it and sell it to the Fijians disguised as a tractor for cash
We are talking about THIS plane that was gifted to tonga by the Chinese. If samoa choose to buy a plane in the future, I'm sure it won't have dire consequences like the one that your gov just accepted for its people.

I looked at its 15 yr record, since 1998, it is a safe aircraft. The Lords of Tonga even said so. It is a brand new plane, we should thank China for this gift, our dirt poor country could not afford it. total package over 30 million dollars. But if we keep on accepting gifts like this China will own us. I don't think it is free.

Now that we agree this plane is dangerous how can we educate our people not to use this white elephant. This garbage can is not IF it will fall off the sky but WHEN. Let's get some ideas of how we can save life. I know our govt. will not tell our people the truth. Together we can make a difference. Do we need to put it in the news paper? Radio? I know how smart my Tongan Brothers and Sister are it won't take much to do this.

The last person that should be giving advice on selling out their country for economical benefits is a Samoan. Maybe our royals will relocate, back to Samoa to rule like the days of old LOL Keep your opinions in the Samoan forum muthachucka

Well you're right, it does seem to have a scary history. It would be good to just turn around and say no thank you to China for their gift, but I'm only thinking a few steps ahead. It would be insulting and it would damage our relationship with them if we did that, I think it would be better to have someone check the plane out, hopefully someone from NZ, because if experts from NZ's own country say its safe then they have no reason to suspend their aid, if they say no, we can go to the chinese and say sorry, after inspection from an independent team it wasn't deemed safe, perhaps China can arrange to fix the problems the team pointed out or if there is any other option we can go forward from there.-some roundabout mumbo jumbo like that lol. There's probably better ideas out there, but yeah thats just a little reason for why i reckon it should get checked out, rather than just straight dumped.

eagger, read gengis khans posts #3 and #4. The aircraft has been banned in the US, NZ as unsafe. Do you want an aviation inspector to come from Auckland and so "We won't let it fly in our country because it is unsafe but it is OK to fly it in Tonga" What part of 'unsafe" do you not understand?

Look, I am not saying we should accept it and allow people to travel on it. The main thing I'm trying to say - about gettng it checked out is, look, we've already received the gift. If we turn around and say China, thanks but no thanks the planes haven't been certified by US or NZ etc, so we believe it isn't safe. China may turn around and think wtf we give these people a cheap loan to rebuild their capital, we've given them aid, we give their kids scholarships etc, and now we give them a plane, they turn around and chuck it in our face because it ain't certified by other countries.
We can't have that, we still have a large loan, if we dont want to kill future negotiations on the debt, we should be careful the way we do things.
I say we get the experts, let them check the damn planes -because we can't rely on hearsay to reject the plane, we have to get actual facts on this particular plane IF we were going to reject the plane. That should leave NZ happy, and China not insulted because a flaw was picked up and it would be fair enough not to let it fly. Thats just my idea from where we can go from where we are at now. If you disagree, we can agree to disagree, cool?

Why are the Chinese giving so much aid to Tonga, these ppl of Tonga are barbaric, uneducated, cannibals and walking around naked, they have no need for a plane. They will not not know what to do with it. If they have spare change give it to the needy countries.
