Oct 14, 2009 Full story: Mid-Day Mumbai 2,201

A day after China protested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Arunachal Pradesh, India on Wednesday criticised China for deciding to help Islamabad set up projects in the Pakistani part of Jammu and Kashmir which New Delhi claims as its own.

"Do some traveling around China first..."

India has had a pluralist democracy right from its independence in 1947. There have been protests, processions, opposition, militancy, a free, lively media, independent judiciary, freedom of expression et al for the last 65 years. It is a more difficult task to uplift a poor, heavily populated, highly diverse country, using democracy and freedom, than it is using dictatorship. China( and other dictatorships) can make its people behave in a certain way out of fear, inducements or sheer brainwashing. India cannot.

the perfect example of curry poisoning!!!!

indian logics:

if indian style democracy so good, why protests? why processions? why opposition? why militancy?
a free, lively media. what use if there is nothing to report? independent judiciary, what use if the nation is corrupt?
freedom of expression, what use if there is nothing to express?

if curry is banned in india, then democracy may have some use.

the whole curry nation rise against the govt, they become militant opposition, they protest, they process. the media report all curry revolts, they launch an indendent judiciary inquiry on the ban. they even freely expressed themself on cnn worldwide.

a hopeless nation!!!!

One is free not to revere those things, if one chooses. Can you prove people are brainwashed into 'worshipping'

A lot of psycho anti-Indian idiots posting neanderthal type messages in this forum. That's why I left for a few years; it looks like things haven't improved. Very brilliant reasoning- there shouldn't be freedom of the press, unless there is something to report. People are brainwashed into worshipping cows and monkeys, so political brainwashing is wonderful. Every democrat in the world will love that reasoning.

Democracy is an ongoing experiment, constantly needing to be enriched and upheld. Every election in India is the largest election in history. So no, it's not failed. India hasn't come up economically the way it should have, but it has still progressed, hugely. I suppose you could make the argument that India would have progressed more with a regimented, totalitarian dictatorship like China, or a quasi-fascist state like South Korea(between 1950-1990), but was that doable, let alone desirable, for a country like India?

If you were to read every post on topix in all the forums, you will come to realize that most people in every country are racist war mongering short sighted idiots. I have a suggestion on how to improve democracy - don't let us vote.
