China one-child policy enforcer runs over baby
Posted: 05 February 2013 1316 hrs

BEIJING: A Chinese official demanding a couple pay a fine for violating the country's one-child policy crushed their 13-month-old boy to death with a car, a local spokesman said Tuesday.

Under China's population controls, instituted more than 30 years ago, couples who have more than one child must pay a "social upbringing" fine, while in some cases mothers have been forced to undergo abortions.

Authorities in the eastern city of Wenzhou are investigating how the infant ended up beneath the vehicle, a Mayu county official surnamed Zhou told AFP.

"The family was agitated," he said, "After starting the car to bring the family to the office to discuss the matter, the official discovered the child had been crushed underneath the car."

The baby was rushed to hospital but could not be saved, the People's Daily reported on its website, adding that at the time of the accident the mother was sitting in the car and the father was getting in.

No details were available on how many children they had.

China says the one-child policy -- which exempts some rural families, ethnic minorities and couples who are both only children -- has prevented overpopulation and boosted economic development.

But some experts have called for the restriction to be phased out as the country's labour pool shrinks and the ranks of the elderly swell, while rights groups criticise what they call harsh enforcement methods.

There was widespread outrage last year after a woman who had been forced to abort seven months into her pregnancy was pictured with the bloody foetus.

Baby crushed by car containing China one-child policy team
By Ed Flanaghan, Producer, NBC News
BEIJING – A 13-month-old child was fatally crushed by a car containing Chinese officials after they went to collect a fine from the parents for breaching the country’s one-child policy, according to Chinese state media.

The incident reportedly occurred Monday in Dongshantou village near Wenzhou city in the eastern province of Zhejiang, after a delegation of 11 officials from the Ruian Town birth control office drove out to get the unspecified fine.

This did not go down well with the father, Chen Liandi, 39, and the conversation got heated.

According to a briefing given by the Ruian Municipal Propaganda Department and reported by state media, the officials convinced Chen’s wife, Li Yuhong, to accompany them back to Ruian to talk over the couple’s options.

The baby was reportedly left in the hands of his father and the group got back into their cars to leave.

What happened next remains unclear – perhaps due to the politically sensitive nature of this story – but the boy was then found crushed underneath a car.

He was rushed to the Third People’s Hospital in Ruian, but could not be saved.

'You were too careless'
On China’s Twitter-like service, Weibo, users expressed frustration over the vague account given by Ruian officials and demanded more information, but no other Chinese press have printed much beyond the official government account.

For many in China, the story brings back uncomfortable memories of Feng Jiemei, who last June posted gruesome photographs of her lying in a hospital bed next to her 7-month-old aborted fetus.

Feng’s story created a social firestorm for Beijing when word got out that the 22-year-old mother had been forced to have the abortion because she did not have enough money to pay the $6,400 fine for having a second child.

“I told you,$6,400, not even a penny less. I told your dad that and he said he has no money,” a family planning official wrote to Deng in a blunt text message that quickly went viral.“You were too careless, you didn’t think this was a big deal.”

Feng was grabbed from her home and taken to a local hospital in her native Shaanxi province where she was blindfolded, thrown on a bed and forced to a sign a document she couldn’t read. Thirty hours later, her baby girl was aborted.

China has long defended its one-child policy as a way to prevent overpopulation and to help raise living standards across the country.

However, some experts in China and abroad argue that the policy has outlived its usefulness and may instead be a detriment to future growth.

Others in China have pointed out the abuses meted out in cases like Feng Jiemei’s show that it causes more social harm and have called on Beijing to remove it.

However Beijing just last month reaffirmed its support for the policy.

NBC News’ Le Li contributed to this report.

Wanna bet the CCP Official put the baby under the wheels of the car to "solve" his problem in forcing these uncooperative slaves to obey their CCP owners?

This is like something from the US south in the days of slavery in the 19th century, but with cars.

CCP China is a very, very sick society.

Arrests over China baby's death in one-child policy row

Police in China have detained two government workers after a baby was killed in a dispute over a violation of the country's one-child policy.

State media said the 13-month-old boy was dropped as family planning officials tried to fine his parents for having three children.

The infant was then run over by the officials' van.

Thousands of residents protested outside local government offices on Monday, after the death occurred.

China's one-child policy has been in place more than three decades.

It restricts couples in urban areas to having only one child.

Tussle

Monday's altercation took place in Mayu township in the shadow of Wenzhou city in Zhejiang province, eastern China.

Eleven officials from the Qingxiang community in Mayu were attempting to persuade the baby's parents, Chen Liandi and Li Yuhong, to pay fines for their third child on Monday and were confronted by Mr Chen, a local government official told state news agency Xinhua.

"We were required to pay 30,000 to 40,000 yuan [up to £4,000 or $6,500], otherwise they would have detained us," Mr Chen told Xinhua.

He said his son was dropped during a tussle with officials, and then went under the wheels of one of the government vehicles. The child was confirmed dead in hospital.

That prompted a furious reaction from residents, thousands of whom staged a noisy protest outside government offices.

Xinhua now reports that the van driver and the local Communist Party secretary have been arrested. There is no word on what charges they could face.

Forced abortions

There has been growing resentment across China against the enforcement of strict family planning rules, says the BBC's Asia analyst Charles Scanlon.

Some of the regulations have been relaxed, allowing second children to those in rural areas or to parents who are themselves both only children.

But violators still face fines and problems registering their children for school and medical care.

There have also been reports of more brutal methods, including forced abortions and sterilisations conducted by overzealous local officials.

There was shock in June last year when photos were leaked of a woman lying next to the foetus she had been forced to abort under the one-child policy.

The mother, Feng Jianmei, had been seven months' pregnant.

You almost had a good thread going.

If only you'd provided sources instead of stealing other peoples material and posting it as your own and if only you hadn't been a monstrous hypocrite for complaining about other people spamming.

You almost made a valid criticism.

If only you actually read the full pieces and had noticed they were attributed, you would not have to make frustrated and obviously false accusations of plagiarism.

"AFP" and "NBC News" are somehow mysterious now and very difficult for you to understand , I assume, eh "Professor"?

Perhaps the CCP members get bonuses for running over Chinese children with their imported Mercedes luxury cars?

Anyone familiar with Chinese history knows the members of the Chinese Communist Party have been RICHLY REWARDED for murdering their fellow Chinese in the past!

Yeah, because when someone has read 5 posts of spam, there's nothing more important than reading a 6th.

Like I said dumbass: You almost had a good thread. If it hadn't been presented as the work of an obsessive compulsive who hates China, people might have read it.

Imagine the scenario:

Someone sees there is a new thread in the china section and clicks the link but sadly is confronted by another 10 posts of spam from the guy who makes a few hundred posts of spam every single day.

Do you think they read anything beyond your name before finding another thread?

Why don't you try putting all your stuff in a blog instead of on a message board?

A) It will stop everyone else having to waste time every day filtering out all your spam posts

B) You might give up when you realise nobody reads that either.

Now you're derailing your own thread?

I wonder why?

Is it because I'm pointing out how you encourage people to skip any threads criticising China because the vast majority of them are just you spamming crap?

How much do the CCP pay you to do that? What pitiful wage is your soul worth?

I guess now that your false accusation of plagiarism has been proven to be a pathetic and obvious lie, you are accusing me of "sheltering the CCP from CRITICISM"????!!!!!

How ludicrous!

Perhaps you would be best off searching for a forum tailored to frustrated, needy old has-been pseudo intellectual wankers, who don't really give a damn about China but need straw-men to "debate" to gratify their flaccid egos....
