In 1949, the popular of Tibet was around 950,000 ~ 1 million. This is a piece of well-known fact.

Why was there such a low population in the Tibetan region?

Tibetan Buddhism was one of the reason. When there was no other channel for upward social mobility, families were proud to have their sons become monks.

Life was too hard. 95% of the population was dirt poor, either slaves or serfs, and mortality rate was extremely high and people mostly lived a very short life. The slaves and serfs could not even support themselves, not to mention having children and raised them in a healthy way.

Torture and killing by the aristocracy of theocratic Tibet. This point is linked to the second point. Any of the poor people who showed some hints of disobedience would be maimed or killed. This kind of oppression and rigid control by the small 5% upper class caused a downward spiral in declining productivity of food and products and population.

Check Michael Parenti, L. A. Strong, and Grunefeld for their documents about the atrocities committed by the 5% aristocrats of old Tibet.

If you are a Chinese, you may read history books by famous history professors of Taiwan/Republic of China, Chien Mu, Fu Le-Cheng (of National Taiwan University), and Luo Xiang Lin (of Hong Kong & Taiwan).

Now the population of Tibet is more than 2 million.

I figure since the average TIbetan Serf died when they were in their 30's....

they were thinking less about having kids

and more about trying to survive

dont forget who would want kids knowing they will not only have a shietty life like their parents...

but there was a good chance the monks would sexually abuse their kids

Exactly. The Dollar Lama used to have 6,000 slaves of his own.

By now many people in the world know that Dalai Lama is not so compassionate after all.

He is a political monk supported by CIA to restore the cruel theocracy of Tibet. Whatever he is doing has nothing to do with love, human rights, freedom and democracy.

In Dorjie Shugden followers' words, "Dalai Lama, Stop Lying!"

Please search videos shot by news channels of Europe and USA, showing anti-Dalai protests by Shugden monks across the world!
