Documentaries in the UK are usually privately produced and typically focus on negative aspects of a society. If they presented a balanced viewpoint then the documentary would not be of great interest to the TV stations who buy them.
I think people like "I can read" have already made up their mind about things before they even watch a documentary and they have selective memories that reinforce their prejudices.
The facts are out there for everyone to see.
