In recent weeks, the attacks on Asian firms and people of Chinese descent (and look-alikes) were ferocious. That is ethnically motivated violence while Vietnamese government forces stayed back and watched.

Chaos spread this week from the south to northern cities.

The government took no actions to stop the violence and protect foreigners or its own citizens of Chinese ancestry.

Tourists and businessmen should avoid Vietnam now. It is unsafe to travel to Vietnam given the chaos and organized violence that broke out since last week.

Because of territorial conflicts with the PRC, the Vietnamese communist government organized and encouraged protests against China and Chinese people living there.

But this manipulation of Vietnamese public opinions backed fire and went out of control. Tens of thousands of protesters attacked people of Chinese descent and burned down their houses and businesses. Protesters looted the businesses first, attacked Chinese people, and look-alikes and destroyed and burned down storefronts, and factories owned by Chinese people. So far, 21 Chinese and 5 Vietnamese people died and hundreds of people were injured.

The hardest hit are Taiwanese-controlled enterprises. Vietnamese attackers not only attacked enterprises owned by Chinese from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and PRC and those owned by Vietnamese citizens of Chinese ancestry. They also attacked enterprises from Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. A industrial park run by Singapore was not spared.

Chinese enterprises directly from People's Republic of China account for only a small portion of Chinese controlled-enterprises in Vietnam. Taiwan is the largest sources of investment, and around 5,000 Taiwanese companies are operating there. The next are Hong Kong, South Korean, Japanese and Singaporean companies. Many people of Chinese descent escaped to Laos and Cambodia.

According to witnesses, protesters and attackers came on motorcycles in the number of thousands or over 10 thousand each time. They seemed to act in concert and their steps were pre-planned. They came on motorcycles to surround foreign enterprises, then they looted the businesses, and searched for people. They attacked people within buildings and locked the front and back doors of the buildings before setting them on fire.

After completing the actions in one spot, they move on to the next spot.

According to Taiwanese victims who safely arrived in Taipei in the last 3 days, the actions of the attackers were so quick, and they knew exactly what to do. These victims' offices were locked and set on fire. Some of they escaped through windows. One Taiwanese business owner hid himself in trash dump and narrowly escaped the crowd.

Two Taiwanese escapees working for the same factory were saved by Australians next doors. After their factory were surrounded by Vietnamese attackers, they phoned their neighbour, an Australian firm. The Australians sent a truck to pretend to deliver materials, and they hid the Taiwanese within boxes of cargoes.(Good job!)

In such a communist country, if it is not permitted and organized by the government, no one has the resources and flexibility to organize protests in such a large scale. Note thousands or tens of thousands of attackers came on motorcycles each time.

But the Vietnamese plan has backed fire and innocent lives were lost.

Quit Vietnam, this place is run by mobs. Vietnam should be kicked out of ASEAN for attacking Singapore and Thailand properties.

William Pfaff
Blowback - Chalmers Johnson p212

By the time the IMF was finished with Indonesia, over a thousand shopkeepers were dead (most of them Chinese), 20 percent of the population was unemployed, and a hundred million people-half the population-were living on less than one dollar a day.
William Pfaff characterized the IMF's actions as "an episode in a reckless attempt to remake the world economy, with destructive cultural and social consequences that could prove as momentous as those of l9th-century colonialism.
Note: IMF, World Bank... Are US apparatuses!
Mostly Likely US fomented plots to incite nations /brothers to wars! Watch Out!

In 1995, severely indebted low-income countries paid one billion dollars more in debt and interest to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) than they received from it. For the 46 countries of Subsaharan Africa, foreign debt service was four times their combined governmental health and education budgets in 1996. So, we find that aid does not aid.

I know those are crooked institutions. Don't any country ever default and have to ask for loans from the IMF or the World Bank because they will set strict rules for you to follow like growing the right crops that meet the demand of the world and not the crops that your people can eat. The result would be your people will starve and the rich people will live better. But at least you have a good chance of recovering and getting back on your feet.. Argentine has succeeded in getting up again.
In the past, poor countries in Africa and Asia could not get loans and poor people died en mass. The result was that they became more backward because they lacked money to make investments on education, sciences, healthcare etc.. and got colonized by Westerners. That was what happened to China.

Martin A. Lee and Norman Solomon, Unreliable Sources, p320

Half a million children died [in Latin America] in 1988, according to UNICEF, as families in the developing world slid into severe poverty, while their governments imposed strict austerity measures at the behest of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. This was the standard prescription for servicing the foreign debt—much of which had accrued in Latin America while U.S.-backed dictators looted their own treasuries, siphoning loans into various secret bank accounts. Yet the loans kept coming.

Noam Chomsky, Year 501, 222

In 1978, US experts became concerned that swine fever in the Dominican Republic might threaten the US pig industry. The US initiated a $23 million extermination and restocking program aimed at replacing all of the 1.3 million pigs in Haiti, which were among the peasants' most important possessions, even considered a "bank account" in case of need. Though some Haitian pigs had been found to be infected, few had died, possibly because of their remarkable disease-resistance, some veterinary experts felt. Peasants were skeptical, speculating that the affair had been staged so that "Americans could make money selling their pigs." The program was initiated in 1982, well after traces of disease had disappeared. Two years later, there were no pigs in Haiti.

Peasants regarded this as "the very last thing left in the possible punishments that have afflicted us." A Haitian economist described the enterprise as "the worst calamity to ever befall the peasant," even apart from the $600 million value of the destroyed livestock: "The real loss to the peasant is incalculable...[The peasant economy] is reeling from the impact of being without pigs. A whole way of life has been destroyed in this survival economy." School registration dropped 40-50 percent and sales of merchandise plummeted, as the marginal economy collapsed. A USAID-OAS program then sent pigs from Iowa-for many peasants, confirming their suspicions. These were, however, to be made available only to peasants who could show that they had the capital necessary to feed the new arrivals arid to house them according to specifications. Unlike the native Haitian pigs, the Iowa replacements often succumbed to disease, and could survive only on expensive feed, at a cost that ran up to $250 a year, a huge sum for impoverished peasants. One predictable result was new fortunes for the Duvalier clique and their successors who gained .control of the feed market.

over the week,120 taiwan's, 26 S.korea's, 17 japan's, 5 China's(3 from HK, 2 from mainland), 3 singapore's, 2 USA's, 1 Germany, 1 malaysia's businesses got burned.
2 Chinese nationals, 4 other foreigners, over 20 Vietnamese dead.
Vietnam has to sell their navy ships and coast guard ships to China in order to get oil supply, they run out of dollar already. by the end of next month, Petrolviet's share of all those oil wells along coast vietnam will be zero.
if vietnam doesn't want to stay stone age forever,1) lease their ports to China,2) transfer those criminals to China to get excution.
btw. time to audit all those businesses. make them Chinese public-owned enterprises. yes, taiwan independence force: your days are numbered.

...With more than 1 billion of Chinese coconuts, a few smashed ones wouldn't be big deal for China leadership Instead, to wage another war with VN like the one of 1979 will surely put Chinese population down, effectively. Chinks would freely execute Vietnamese when they come in Vietnamese soil...That's great, isn't it? Wahahahahha!

I saw that on the news...basically it is not about China Vietnam dispute, the mobs just want to use this as a chance to loot and vent their frustration on perpetual poverty. Jealousy and poverty gaps are the real reasons. Singapore has been very generous to Vietnam, now they repay its kindness by burning Singapore flag. Bunch of ungrateful bastards.

Forces of different interests seized the opportunity to stir up trouble at the expenses of innocent foreign people.

Japan and USA have also showed their friendship towards Vietnam very recently. Yet their factories got attacked too.

Germany is unrelated to any disputes in Southeast Asia, and its factory was not spared.

More South Korean factories were burned than those from PRC.

Scary!

Vietnam and people are not trustworthy. Not a good candidate for any kind of (commercial or political) alliance.

Japan To Move Troops To Islands in Dispute With China

Called the Senkakus in Japan and the Diaoyus in China, these islands have been a point of disagreement on sovereignty between China and Japan for years.

TOKYO – Japan is to establish new military outposts on remote islands, a report said Monday, as Tokyo looks to bolster its defense amid a territorial dispute with China.

Up to 350 troops each could be stationed on three islands in the far southwest, close to the Senkakus, which Beijing claims as its own under the name Diaoyus, the mass-selling Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

With the exception of the main Okinawa island, Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Forces- its army- have no bases on the chain of islands that runs from the bottom of Kyushu to Taiwan. There are limited air force facilities in the area.
