Just as I predicted a month or so ago, that both powers were posturing for as much advantage as they could before coming to an agreement.

Yet the bashers on both sides were saying war was coming.

How does one know these things?

By paying attention to history and not tuning in the talking heads and reading opinion.

I Did not think they were going to war I knew the Vietnamese would cave in and sign a agreement...

just like Vietnam signed border treaties with China in 1999 and 2000 losing land or water in those deals....

ofcourse we may have said a few things to irk our low IQ Vietnamese boat people wanna be americans in the USA

they should be so happy about a deal....

Thumping your chest and strut'n about ? Let me see if I got this right, you predicted that they would set up a "hotline for emergencies", a month or so ago ? Funny part is I remember "a month or so ago reading that they would do just that. Was your crystal ball setting on top of an article when you made this prediction ?

P.S: It's just for fun.

Since China still controls most of the claimed territories and it is vietnam who has signed this agreement without any concessions from china I would think it was vietnam who is doing the barking not the biting....

Did he call it the " Vietnamese Eastern Sea" ?

"Signalling the deepening ties between the two countries, India and Vietnam signed as many as six agreements on Wednesday as part of the on-going visit by Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang among which is one that will allow ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL) to explore for oil in the disputed South China Sea.
It is a move that is sure to rile Beijing in view of Chinese claims of “indisputable sovereignty” over this sea but the Vietnamese President made it clear while responding to a gathering of leading businesspersons that his country will continue to welcome Indian companies in the field of oil exploration as well as Indian business investment in other areas.
Asked about Chinese claims over the South China Sea at the Vietnam-India Business Forum meet on Wednesday, the Vietnamese President said that the Vietnamese Eastern Sea (South China Sea) was discussed, he and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held comprehensive talks earlier in the day. He further said that Vietnam’s policy is to resolve disputes through peaceful negotiations and diplomatic channels. He also cited various international laws on the basis of which the dispute over claims on these waters can be resolved"

I am wondering if anyone else notices this: Vietnam is sending their President, Prime Minister and other high ranking leaders to India and other nations to sign treaties, MoU, pacts. They sent a relatively low rank leader, Vice-Minister of Foreign relation to China.

That's quite a rub in China's face, don't you think?

It seems to me India and Vietnam will join together in the South front to contain China while USA will help Philippines to contain China in the South-East front. Also, USA is helping Japan to contain China in the East front.
Perhaps over time, the South front front will be renamed as the Indian Ocean front with India and Vietnam as core members. The South-East front and East front will be renamed as the Pacific front with USA, Japan, Philippines as core members.
If Russia sees that China is being distracted enough, they will stop selling China resources at discount prices. Currently China is black-mailing Russia over the loss land from the Tsar's unequal treaty with the Qing empire.

China is using China Sea to diverge their internal problems like social riots and human rights...Chinese nationalists like this propaganda....the facts are why China waits until now to claim 80% of the Sea, why not 5, 10, 20 years ago? Their claims are irrational, baseless and pathetic.

All these foolish talks here. Simply illogical!

India is smarter than that.

India has officially withdrawn from the South China Sea citing the danger there which they are not a party to. They have even backed out of their joint drilling explorations with Vietnam. NO more India involvement with the South China Sea equation.

US Sec of Defense Leon Panata was give a polite exit when he tried to enlist India support in the encirclement of China. India reply: "NO DEAL"!
