For over a century until 1997, you had control of Hong Kong. But you wouldn't do it to curtail your own power. You wanted to enjoy absolute power and subservience of your colonial subjects.
After 1997, you are no longer in control of HK. But surprisingly your country and fellow countrymen have become more interest in implementing democracy in Hong Kong.
Why do you try to get involved in something you have no control and not your territory?

After all, you just described not giving democracy to a place as sinful.
