On this day 71 years ago the world was changed in a flash as the United States entered into World War II after a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan. The BBC reported on this day 71 years ago, "Japan has launched a surprise attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and has declared war on Britain and the United States. The US president, Franklin D Roosevelt, has mobilized all his forces and is poised to declare war on Japan."

At the time when Pearl Harbor was attacked US Secretary of State Cordell Hull was negotiating with Japanese officials on lifting US sanctions imposed after continuing Japanese aggression against China. The United States was perhaps a more trusting nation than and had apparently let its defenses down. The nation went into shock when reports hit the news that Japanese bombers flew over Hawaii on a sunny morning as torpedo-carrying planes targeted warships, aircraft and military installations in Pearl Harbor, on Oahu. The United States went to war and will never forget this lesson of history that the nation simply can not ever let its guard down again, even for a moment, or the nation could perish.

Nazi china has already been soundly whipped by the Vietnamese a few yrs ago.. god forbid, is it gonna happen again???

Vietnam to deploy 'specialised force' in South China Sea

Vietnamese fishing boats in the South China Sea
Vietnam responds to new rules announced by Hainan by launching its own efforts to safeguard its disputed waters
Vietnam has announced that from 25 January 2013 a 'specialised force' under its new Fishery Bureau will be activated to conduct patrol and surveillance duties in the hotly contested waters of the south china sea

It is ironic how Japanese aggression against other nations is no longer hit with sanctions these days. I guess as long as they are faithful to their masters then they can get away with pulling on their leash especially if it serves their master’s interests.

Nazi China? It was the Nazis that befriended the Dalai Lama, not the Chinese government.

Are you living in a fantasy world? The results of the 1988 sea battle between China and Vietnam?

Viets: 4 war ships sunk. 400 sailors dead or wounded.

China: 0 war ship sunk. 1 sailor injured.

You were saying?

on the anniversary of the attack on pearl harbor, twitter remembers "the damn japs"

Today marks the 71st anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Because I just couldn't help myself, I took to Twitter and did a quick-and-dirty search to see if "observances" were taking the form of unhealthy anti-Japanese sentiment. Why the hell did I bother looking? Sometimes you already know what's coming:

I know. The tweets of a handful of morons aren't really representive of anything. The disturbing thing is that the events at Pearl Harbor presumably happened long before most of these people were born. Is that all they've been taught to remember?'Merica and "the Japs." The End.

USA conducted a nuclear experiment last week. That is an insult to the victims.

We, especially our citizens in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, are very angry!

It shows you have no regret for causing the tragedy in the 2 cities.

It is ironic how German aggression against other nations is no longer hit with sanctions these days. I guess as long as they are now peace loving and not aggresive we should not live in the past.
other wise we would all be looking over our shoulders at shadows.
but that is exactly what the Nazi commie's want their slaves to do..lool.
you just gotta admire those strong, hard working, honourable Japanese now,, don't ya?

The Rt Hon. Oliver Lyttleton, a member of Churchill's war cabinet, declared in an address to the American Chamber of Commerce in London on June 24, 1944: "America provoked [the Japanese] to such an extent that the Japanese were forced to attack Pearl Harbor. It is a travesty of history to say that America was forced into the war."

Why? Which party attacked which other party first? Had there been no Pearl Harbor and subsequent Japanese aggression in that Pacific War, there would have been no atomic bombs.
